Description
We are a couple from Spain and Holland with three kids. We were travelling around the world until 4 years ago, we were managing a hostel in Uruguay. But few years ago we decided to stay close by Barcelona as our family is living here and with the kids we like to have the family close by. We life in a house in the mountains but 10 min car distance from the beach. We have a tourist company and we work in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges. The idea is to have a person living with us that can help us with the house daily tasks, gardening and sometimes with the kids. The original ideal is to help between 20-15 hours a week in exchange of accomodation and food .We have a private room to our host and very nice life to share.

I've just spent 3 weeks at Sol and Youri's place and had a great experience there.

Communication was very easy from the start and the stay was quickly arranged. Sol gave me the details and everything was exactly as explained. Sant Pere de Ribes is easy to reach from Barcelona and you need a 35 minutes walk to go from their house to the main bus… read more stop in town (35 when I stayed focused on walking, but a few more minutes if you like to play or read on your phone on the way). There are two paths to go there, the easiest is to follow the road, where you will have light most of the way when the night falls early, but you can also walk through the forest and vineyards during the day, it's lovely. Actually, if you enjoy hiking, this is a great place to stay! There are so many paths just outside the house, I had a lot of fun exploring the area. During the weekends, you have time to do longer hikes or to go explore Barcelona, of course, there is always something to do there. Sitges is also lovely and just a bus ride away (or a 7 km short walk!).

The tasks were simple : cleaning up after breakfast and lunch, and then working outside. I worked mostly on the walls, applying cement or painting them. Sol always sent me messages explaining where I should work on that day, and if I had any doubt, I only had to send her a quick message. I personally enjoyed getting in the zone working by myself listening to music, it was almost therapeutic!

Youri's meals were absolutely delicious (I didn't expect to get to eat steak tartare during a workaway!), and I had always plenty of options for dinner : pasta, rice and eggs, sandwiches, leftovers.... I never got hungry, and I'm a hearty eater.

And of course, I'll finish by saying that the entire family was lovely and made me feel welcome and it was quite interesting to see them all jump from Spanish to Dutch to English in a single conversation. Sol and Youri are both so nice and interesting, the contact was very easy. The kids are lively, and I had a lot of fun moments with Layan in particular. At the same time, they weren't overbearing and I could enjoy my peace when I wanted to.

I definitely recommend this workaway to anyone who wants to experience family life in a semi-rural Spanish area, if you're a keen hiker, and if you're independent and self-sufficient when it comes to working and organizing your days off. I really enjoyed my stay and I hope I'll get to see Sol, Youri, Layan, Kylian and Elan again in the future.

Hola, si bien no tengo mucho que decir, tengo mucho que decir. Mis conversaciones con Sol fueron muy bien, ella siempre fue servicial respondiendo mis preguntas y me explicó que el almuerzo se comía con toda la familia, pero que ellos no cenaban, pero que yo podía sentirme libre de cocinar. Justo cuando llegué al aeropuerto hubo un incidente en el… read more que me dejaron la maleta en Madrid, así que estuve horas en el aeropuerto intentando solucionar el problema y acabé teniendo que coger un autobús y bajarme en Sitges, pero Youri, tu marido, estaba allí búscame. Ella fue súper servicial conmigo, me prestó ropa, al día siguiente llamó a la aerolínea y me prestó su celular para poder hacer una llamada, me dejó ir en la mañana para resolver la situación y en la tarde realizó las tareas del día. Al día siguiente en la mañana me llevó a la ciudad para que pudiera ir a Stiges a comprar ropa ya que mi maleta aún no había llegado, pero en la tarde cumplí casi 5 horas de trabajo diario.

Respecto a la vacante, las actividades que debes realizar no son difíciles, consisten en ordenar la cocina del café, organizar la ropa, barrer la casa y trabajar en el jardín (esta parte es difícil y te duele la espalda). El acuerdo era ayudar de 4 a 5 horas y tener los fines de semana libres. Ella ya me había dicho que su residencia no estaba en la ciudad y que estaba a 45 minutos caminando, que me podían llevar cuando iban o venían de la ciudad; Incluso hablé con 2 trabajadores que me explicaron lo mismo. Sin embargo, ni Sol ni las chicas dijeron que el camino está completamente sin iluminación y a las 7:30 pm ya no se ve nada en el camino, y Sol dijo que las workways usaban la linterna de su celular para desplazarse. Nunca haría un viaje tan largo en total oscuridad, lo que significa que planear salir después de terminar mis tareas para ver los lugares ya no sería posible, ya que el trabajo es de 10 am a 3 pm hasta que me arreglé y caminé hasta la ciudad, para coger el autobús para ir a Stiges ya que en Ribes no hay nada que hacer, ya me di la hora de volver, ya que tendría que estar de vuelta en Ribes a las 18.30 para poder llegar a su casa antes de que oscurezca.

Entonces le expliqué la situación y le pregunté si podía hacer las tareas de 9 am a 2 pm, ella dijo que no, ya que solo estaría libre después de limpiar la cocina para el almuerzo, por lo que tendría que ser entre las 10 am y 3 pm.

En cuanto a la comida, no te preparan para los caminos de workway, no te preguntan lo que comes y te lo compran para que lo prepares tú mismo, pasas la mayor parte del tiempo solo y cuando regresan en la noche no se preocupan por sabiendo si estabas cómodo alimentado, y en este caso no había nada para cenar, solo había algo de fruta, así que comí 1 manzana y 1 plátano para la cena. Descubrí que tengo intolerancia a la lactosa, por lo que no podía comer nada de lo que había en el refrigerador, ni siquiera cosas ácidas, entonces le pregunté si podía comprar papas, me dijo que las compraría si las tuvieran, después de ir. Al mercado me informó que no tenían papa, pero él no se molestó en preguntarme si quería que comprara otro tipo de comida, así que me limité a comer solo la manzana y el plátano. No se come el desayuno que les hacen a ellos y a los niños, Sol hizo pastel de naranja minutos después de que le informé que tenía gastritis y esofagitis y entonces tendré que comer bien, ni siquiera me lo ofreció, yo Fueron solo 2 días y se suponía que debía quedarme 18 días, pero no me di cuenta, porque bajé más de 1kg en esos dos días y además porque no sentí en ningún momento que fuera un cambio, quieren gente a hacer las tareas del hogar sin importarle si usted está contento, comiendo y teniendo la oportunidad de aprovechar el tiempo para conocer el lugar. Ayer le dije que no me quedaría por no poder moverme y por la comida no quedó muy satisfecha y dijo que debía haberle avisado con antelación y quedarme unos días más hasta que pudiera. para planear, le dije que le informé tan pronto como lo decidí y no me quedaría más porque no comía y me enfermaría y no iba a su casa solo a limpiar y no salía a dormir. caminar.

Le pregunté si me podían llevar a la ciudad al día siguiente por las maletas y me dijo que no, porque iba con mi marido y mis hijos en un solo coche y no cabía ni para mí ni para mis maletas, pero ella Podía llamar a un taxi que me costaría 15 euros, ya que tenía que pagar un hostal para salir de su casa y no estaba en mis planes, 15 euros harían mucha diferencia, así que caminé con mis maletas hasta la ciudad.

Esta fue mi primera experiencia como workway y no se parecía en nada a lo que realmente propone la plataforma, este no es un puesto donde todos ganan, solo es su familia. Si no te importa caminar en la oscuridad y tener una dieta limitada sin flexibilidad para cambiar de horario, este es el trabajo para ti, no lo era para mí. Todos mis amigos que han sido voluntarios en Workway me dijeron que este no era un puesto ideal porque te tratan como a una familia, te tratan como a un empleado, solo les preocupa que alguien haga tus tareas.

Tuve poco contacto con los niños, pero son hermosos y muy educados. Youri y Sol también son amables, no me siento mal tratado con palabras, sino con actitudes.
