Description
We are a family of 4. My wife (45), our son (15) and daugther (14) and me (44). We both have regular jobs and my wife works as a programmer and I teach biology and sports in a high school.
We live in a 100 year old farm that is in better shape then its age would suggest, with a large guesthouse. There is alot of space and many dreams and projekts, we would like to realise, "thus this ad on workaway".
We also have 5 cats at the moment, some sheep and a herd of chickens, with more animals to come. We eat a regular diet and we do for the most part, buy our food from the supermarket, but we do love the idea of becoming more self sufficient, and are working on that. We bought our farm almost 3 years ago, so there are still so many things undone, to make it into a haven for us and our friends and visitors, but at the same time, we want to learn how to live a more balanced life with nature and how to grow food regeneratively. Which is very much inspired by permaculture and the concept of a food forrest.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
If you come for a visit, you will learn about sustainable farming and permaculture principals, but hey, I might just also learn alot from you. One of my core principals is that there are more then one way to do stuff, and your idea might be as good or better then mine. I am experimenting with many things right now and you will learn from my success and my failure. Luckely there is more of the former. My wife and I speak fluent English, Icelandic and Danish, I am also fluent in German, although I don't write German that well. We have both traveled alot and like to discus topics from world politics, global warming, physics, biology or other interessting stuff, we like to refer to ourselfs as nerds, and if you aren't a nerd, it is because you haven't found your subject yet :o)
One of the things I am experimenting with right now, is how to conserve food, So I will be trying to pressure cook food in cans and such. I think it is important to learn how to conserve food in a way, that doesn't need electrizity.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Newly bought farm with 6 hectare of land. We have been using the first two years on building a new roof and at the same time, trying to get startet on the kitchengarden and our food forrest, to clarify, the roof is finished and whatever help I would need there, would be on the inside, under the roof.
I teach biology in High School, but have flexible hours, so that I am often at home, during the day. You will be working with me, for the most part on whatever projekt we choose to focus on, this means that you have a say in what you would like to focus on. This means that you can also experiment with your own project, as long as it is with in the regenerativ agricultural sphere. We have sheep and chickens, but I am hoping to expand that with ducks and rabbits soon. I am hoping to build a class room some day in the future, so that I can teach children about permaculture end ecosystems from or plot of land. But mostly I want to focus on growing our garden and food forrest.
On the topic of eco projects.
My goal is to make a food producing ecosystem and to make more space for biodiversity, so if that is your thing, lets talk about it and see what we can make happen? I am already planing serval smal ponds and to keep dead treestrunks on the premisses etc. But I dream of making several areas for wild bees and designing different micro habitats to attract as many different animals as possible.Languages

I speak german, since I was a exchange student in Germany in 1996/97, so I love to practise. Generally I love languages, but I am not currently learning a new one. That being said, I would love to pick up some spanish. We speak Danish of course, but also Icelandic and English, and german as mention above.Accommodation
We have a seperate guesthouse in good condition, with a large bathroom with a shower. In the bathroom there is also a washing machine. We can accommodate several people at the same time, in different rooms of course. There is a fireplace in the entrance with a siting area and from there, entrances to the different rooms. It is quite nice and clean, as it is recently renovated. We expect to eat together, but if there is a need for familytime and such, there will of course still be food for everyone, but we might kindly ask you to eat on the other side, same goes for you, if you need time of for your own thoughs. It is not necesserily to be expected, that we ask for familytime, but better to have said it, beforehand.
What else ...
We are about 5 km from the trainstation, but my wife works in Copenhagen and takes the train 4 days a week, so you can always join her in the morning and come back in the afternoon or whenever. We don't mind picking you up at the station in the evening, within reason of course. We have some bikes you can use as well and camping gear, as I have been a tour guide for many years. Now I just love to be home, working the farm. One of the things I want to build is a shelter to sleep in, near the house, but still far enough so it is private.
