    Description

Hi I’m Kirsty. I would love to welcome you to my home, a cosy 2 bedroom cabin, shared with me , a delightful dachshund and a slightly cantankerous cat.

This is a multi generational family hobby farm and my parents live on the property as well. We have a large veggie garden, and an old orchard in a beautiful country setting. The help needed is only around our private home and private, not for profit garden that feeds us.

Our place is centrally located on Vancouver Island- 2 hrs to Tofino, and many other beautiful Vancouver Island attractions.

It is a 5 minute drive to stores and only a 10 minute drive to the town’s scenic waterfront.

Close proximity to forests and nature trails, mountain views, waterfalls, and there are plenty of opportunities for amazing swimming in summer at nearby lakes and rivers.

Omnivorous diet with locally grown meats and fish, homegrown vegetables. I enjoy food from many cultures and try to eat a healthy but balanced diet. Feasting together on fresh local food and enjoying a lively chat, games night or a quiet evening with a book or a movie are all part of the adventure.

We will share cooking responsibilities, and while I am highly flexible and accommodating, self motivated helpers are essential as I work off the property as on weekdays, Monday through Friday . There are many projects to help on, inside and outside with projects from baking sourdough bread, making kombucha, meal prepping, interior finishing like painting, window washing, deep cleaning, organizing, designing and building an outdoor outdoor shower and kitchen, and I'm hoping to start on constructing a new chicken coop this spring.

The area is truly beautiful, and there is much to explore around the valley.

Helpers would have their own bedroom, but the bathroom is shared.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I love to share stories and ideas.

Helpers would be welcome to join in on outings. Activities I enjoy include sharing meals with friends, playing games, swimming in the lakes and rivers, hikes, dog walks, going to the sauna, live music, theatre, thrift stores , cooking together and enjoying the local breweries.

I have an eclectic taste in music, enjoy reading, or watching movies, and working on beading, or crafts.

There are great walking trails nearby, and I have a couple of bikes that could be tuned up and used to get around. There is a golf course within walking distance, and on Saturdays, there is a market up the road.

    Help

There is much to be done here on this old farm, so there is something for everyone.

Projects include creating a chicken house, home tasks such as painting and helping in the garden planting, weeding, picking. The garden and yard tasks would not be for revenue building and would be limited to the garden that is established for private, personal use only, and I’m happy to share my gardening knowledge, and my love of cooking and baking 😊

I’m interested in cultural exchange, and I have a wide range of interests and skills to share related to homesteading . This includes food preservation, sourdough, fermentation, and sustainable agriculture.

I am quite social and have a lovely community of friends and family. I may also need a house and cat sitter in Mid to late July 2025.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I currently have a spare bedroom in the cabin with a single and a double bed, so you would have your own room.

    The bathroom is shared.
I can also provide a tent and bedding if you prefer to be outside :).

I am away at work during the week days but am home most evenings and will provide food for a helper to access and cook, and we can take turns together on preparing dinners and cleaning up.

I love trying new foods and we can always shop together to ensure there are things you like in the house.

    What else ...

The closest stores are only a 5 minute drive away, and you could walk there in about 25 minutes. The town core is only 10 minutes away by car . There are many beautiful spots to visit, and some great local eateries and breweries.

Guests are welcome to smoke cigarettes and marijuana outside as long as they do so safely and clean up after themselves.

Well behaved pets are welcome if they get along with small dogs and grumpy cats :). We have accommodated a German Shepard in the house but my cat would prefer it if you have your own camper/trailer/ accommodation for them to stay in. It’s a small living space and there is a ladder type stair to get upstairs to the bedrooms. It is too steep for a dog to climb. I have an elderly cat and a miniature dachshund, and carry the dog up and down the stairs. Pets would need to be well socialized and friendly with other animals and people.
