Description
Hi!
We're a small family of three +1 dog who live in the beautiful Cowichan Valley of Vancouver Island. Our home is on a beautiful & diverse two acres of forest, minutes from the Cowichan River and a 15 minutes drive from the Lake. Vancouver Island has everything we love - sailing, hiking, fishing, foraging on beaches where you can collect oysters and clams - and some fantastic vineyards and brewpubs.
Jessie and I are getting married at our home in September (Yay!) so have a lot of landscaping and building projects on the go in preparation for the big day.
We both work remotely so we're usually home. A typical day might include some work on the yard or a DIY building project, followed by a jump in the river, a seafood BBQ and some local craft beers.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are long time island people who thrive in the outdoors and specialize in the culinary side of Vancouver Island. Depending on the season, we will fill our free days sailing, foraging, fishing, hunting, hiking, or canoeing. Workawayers will get the benefits of our gear - borrow our canoe & fishing rods, or join us for a day sail on our 40' cutter sailboat - and learn about all the beauty Vancouver Island has to offer. We are especially keen on foraging activities including clam digging, oyster picking, crabbing, trout fishing, berry picking and mushroom hunting - all for the sake of an outdoor excursion and putting food on the table!
Help
Landscaping, gardening, (building a new deer-fence, setting up a fire pit area, a new lawn), and some small building projects including building a large deck around the airstream where our workawayers will be staying.

We would be glad to practice our Spanish and French!Accommodation
Our situation is perfect for a traveling couple, which is who we would prefer to host.
Workawayers will stay in our 31' Airstream trailer. Built in 1972, it has a very distinctive retro feel, but is cosy and equipped with everything you need to be self sufficient including a double bed, two single guest beds, your own bathroom with shower and a mini kitchen. The airstream area is separate from the rest of our home meaning workawayers get privacy and independence. For meals, just tell us your food preferences and we will make sure your kitchen is stocked. We would love to team up for a dinner or two each week as our schedule allows! We both work remotely full time and spend a lot of time with our daughter, but the summer is a great time for outdoor BBQ'sWhat else ...
Our home in the Cowichan Valley is a very short distance from many trails, rivers and lakes, and is surrounded by phenomenal campsites. Get to know the area and be sure to spend some over-nighters in the beautiful valley. I (Brendan) have gone hunting, fishing and mushroom picking all over the island and can share some of its very best camping spots - including recreation sites owned by logging companies where camping is free (and beautiful!) and not known by many visitors.
Use us as your outdoor resource!
We are off the beaten path - there is a bus stop a 5 minute walk from our house, but outside of that it's recommended to have your own vehicle if you want to discover the rest of the island.A little more information
