    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There are so many activities for all ages in the area. From yoga to football, ex-pat outings, paragliding, river swimming holes, clubs, etc. . There is a good mix of locals and ex-pats. Lots of opportunity for Spanish language practice and to learn about culture. I speak fluent Spanish and English and I was also a teacher. I volunteer with elderly, animals and local groups. I hope to learn about my guests, their hopes and dreams, culture and whatever they're willing to share. There is also peace and quiet for anyone just wanting to get away. I have lots of local contacts and am happy to make introductions.

    Help

I have three projects. PROJECT (1) WE WOULD LIKE TO CREARE A SMART HOME. We have lots of locals interested in technology. The goal is to turn our home into a smart home so that no one can tell when the home is unattended. This is something that's needed in rural areas, as families feel that they can never leave their homes without someone staying behind. Teaching this technology could help the security in our mountain areas. I know nothing about this and would totally rely on you to lead a group of 3-5 locals. I have two paid workers that can help and are fairly bi-lingual. It would be open to as many as you can handle in a small group. I can help but I would be the one bringing snacks and trying to learn. We want lights to be able to be on timers, maybe TV also, bathroom light sometimes?, Alexa speaker or something so we can project our voices into house sometimes? We have trail cams mostly hooked up. (Kittyhawk) that we might need help with.

PROJECT (2) WOULD LIKE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT LANDSCAPING. Our house is built on a mountain and there are frequent landslides. I seek someone who can teach our regular workers how to stabilize that soil erosion in an aesthetic way , and the more food plants that could be used - the better. I am hoping to make trails and paths from top to bottom (about 50 meters).

PROJECT (3) NEED YOUR IDEAS. We have a shell of a house next door that we would like to make usable. Our ideas are a Greenhouse to grow our own food and take to farmers market and needy families OR dog rescue with quarters for caretaker as I am a foster dog parent and am giving considerable thought to being a full blown rescue. We are also open to ideas. You would be doing tasks along side a local contractor and 3 helpers.

Three meals will be provided of the local style cuisine. This usually incudes a beverage, pinto, chicken or beef, a vegetable and platino. Vegetarian or vegan meals are also available upon request. Most ingredients come from the farmers market and are fresh and healthy.

I am more than happy to speak as much Spanish/ English , or full immersion , as my guest wants. I love to teach and help. You will be working with local help that mostly speak Spanish and love sharing about their culture, traditions, music, food and family.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodations: (1) I have a studio apartment on my property that is new, with a full size bed and kitchenette. It is about 45 meters from our family home. It has parking and is gated. (2). I have a spare guestroom that is very cozy with private sitting area on the main level of our home. We are upstairs. Both are clean and safe. Both have hot water in private bathroom. Three meals (typical Tico-style meal ) will be provided per day. Breakfast may include local fruits and bread and coffee, or eggs, or pancakes with coffee. Lunch and Dinner is usually a typical costa Rican plate of food with a local fruit beverage .

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are early to bed, early to rise. Most of the community in this rural area are the same. Although it depends on season, usually day break many are already picking coffee beans or chopping weeds. However, you are an adult, just be respectful. There is so much to do on your time off. From farmers markets, workshops, yoga, ecstatic dance, language lessons, massages, swimming holes, secret gardens, butterfly domes -Casa Alegria (TM), mountain climbing, animals, paragliding, beach day trips, live music, CloudBridge(TM), and more. We have Ubers and busses. No smoking inside any of our homes.

We have fiber optic internet. With that said its still Costa Rica and there are times the power goes out. Usually comes right back on but its a thing everywhere in the country. There is also wifi at restaurants within walking distance and sim cards are available for purchase. They make a good back up.
