Description
We are an Australian family of four who live in suburban Hobart, on the edge of the bush. We both work and have two children aged 14 and 10. We also have a big furry dog who is very friendly and lovable. In our spare time we like to go on bushwalks (usually short ones!), visit local beaches, or putt around in our little boat. We would be happy to take you with us on short outings.
We have a modern, well insulated home with stunning views. There are walking tracks and mountain bike tracks through the bush behind our home. Our home is about 15 minutes into central Hobart by car, and we have a bus stop about 100m from our door.
We are a non-smoking home.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We lived in Japan for more than 5 years and know it can be hard to meet locals when in another country. Stay with us and you will get to know local Australians who know their way around Tasmania.

Help
We are looking for someone to join us over summer to help with gardening and garden maintenance.
Jobs include watering plants, trimming some of the overgrown bushes, putting new plants in the ground, and weeding. Lots of weeding. And a few small painting jobs if you have experience.
Our kids are fairly independent but they love having workaway people in the house, to play with on the trampoline, or perhaps kick a ball and fly a drone with them!
If you like dogs, and are comfortable with a very big dog, you could take our dog for a walk in the mornings.

Accommodation
Our spare bedroom is large and has a double sofa bed, desk, a TV, and a clothes rack. The room has a heater and views of kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
Vegetarian travellers are welcomed.
What else ...
A bus runs from our neighbourhood into the centre of Hobart, where you can explore the docks, museums, and history. Other highlights of Hobart include numerous bushwalking tracks on both sides of the river, an extensive cycle network along the river, and great food.

They are an amazing family and made me feel right at home, welcoming me into their daily lives from the beginning.
The tasks were easy and manageable freely during the day and mainly consisted of housekeeping and gardening.

They were incredibly welcoming and couldn't be more helpful in suggesting things to see or unique cultural experiences around Hobart.
I genuinely loved waking up every morning to a chorus of "Good morning Dobbie!" (my adopted nickname) from the kids. Whether it was playing… read more
From the moment I arrived, they made me feel completely at home, and the warm, relaxed atmosphere of their family was just perfect. I loved how the week was always structured, with clear tasks and plenty of free time, so I knew… read more
