    Description

Our project is located in Puerto Galera on Mindoro Island, a small paradise for nature lovers and divers. We are Thomas and Rosalinda, a retired German-Filipino couple and the founder of a project which was established in 2018 to try and break the circle of poverty, unhealthy living and illness of the local Mangyan tribes.
We relocated to the Philippines in 2016 and live in Puerto Galera , the "Dive Capital of the Philippines".
The tourism made some people rich, many stayed poor, especially the Mangyan, 8 indigenous tribes, who were the owners of the island before.
We try to help with providing financial, medical and educational support to the Iraya Mangyan of Puerto Galera. They live mostly remote and marginalized in the uplands, starving with no expectation for a better future.
Our Mangyan Kabuhayan Project aims to support them with teaching and financial assistance from the Yoga School.
This non profit school is the only accredited Yoga school in Mindoro, licensed by World Yoga Alliance to give internationally accepted 200 hrs Yoga Teachers Training. Kalyani is a registered Yoga teacher E-RYT500 by Yoga Alliance and a Yoga and Ayurveda therapist.
We are looking for volunteers, who want to help needy people by supporting through their work in the Yoga School, giving lessons in Yoga or just donate according to their potential in exchange for a 200 hrs Teachers Training.
The minimum duration of stay should not be shorter than 4 weeks, we favor even longer stays as this is a long term project.
The accommodation will be at the Yoga School, there are 4 apartments available.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

During your stay you will contact the Mangyan people. They are the indigenous people of Mindoro and live mainly in remote areas of the island because they were driven off and pushed back into the mountains more and more by foreign settlers. Keep in mind that the Mangyans are very shy. They need time and some initiation from your part to open up :)
During regular lessons you will meet locals and foreigners at the school, during our retreats and seminars you will meet spiritual people, maybe healers...

    Help

Volunteers should be familiar with practicing Yoga, experienced Yogis can get an education as Yoga Teachers (200 hrs. YTT with international certification from World Yoga Alliance) during the stay. For the teachers training we recommend 8 weeks, for keen students it can be offered in a compressed way, taking 28 days only.
As you will be living in a Yoga School, you are member of a community / shala and therefore have to adhere to a yogic behavior, e.g. daily meditation routine, vegetarian food, no smoking inside the compound.
