Description
Hey travellers,
We are Leigh and Katie. We live on the beautiful Awhitu peninsula on 15 acres of land with our 2 young boys (7/9) and our dog Herby. Most of our land is forest, but we also have 3 acres of pasture with 15 sheep, the beginnings of a food forest and a garden that always needs more love.
Our latest project is native forest protection. It is rewarding work for anyone who is ecologically minded as we aim to achieve this organically. There may be other responsibilities in the case of bad weather such as basic housework, garden/land work and childcare (if you are good with children no pressure). We can offer you your own private cabin which has wifi and a beautiful view over the forest. The energy exchange is a flexible 4-5 hours work (depending on skill and ability) for board, amenities and 3 meals/day. Most helpers just become part of the family and find their own groove, which we appreciate.
We prefer travellers with some experience with country living or the ability to be open minded and respectful when living the country way of life. Some hands-on work experience, practical mindset and good work ethic would be great. You will need to be self-motivated and proactive with contributing to the family as you will be responsible for your own time and projects. It is also worth noting that while we fully respect vegetarian/vegan diets, we are not ourselves and do not have the time to cook separate meals etc (if you are strict with these matters).
Awhitu is a unique and stunning Peninsula near (but not too near) Auckland. We are blessed with the beautiful black sand coastline to our west and tranquil harbour beaches to the east. We look across the harbour to Auckland city which is 1hr/20min drive away. If you want to explore the area with a bit more freedom, it is best to have a car as there is no public transport. But we also go out so you will be welcome to join us when we do.
If this situation sounds interesting to you, please send us a message.
All the best.
