    Description

Hello everyone. I am Mohit Bagadia, and I run a eco-backpacker hostel and campsite here in a beautiful village called Are in Maharashtra, surrounded by a lush green jungle, river, backwaters and clean beach. Our aim is to revive and showcase the local culture, heritage and traditions to guests looking to learn more about the coastal paradise that is the Konkan.

We currently have two two full time staff who run the reception desk on the site and a group of women from the local community who come and manage the site and run the restaurant. The local women are part of self help group and we are set up in collaboration with them, which means they are our business partners and not our employees. We are training them to run nature walks, heritage trails and host culinary workshops.

Travellers would learn an incredible amount about the local culture, traditions and way of life of the Konkan at our property. We are not only showcasing the local culture to our guests via food and immersive experiences and workshops, we are also doing research and trying to document the coastal paradise that is the Konkan coast of Maharashtra.

The whole idea behind our project is educational, with an aim to generate and create knowledge by juxtaposing traditional village life with modern urban ideas.
