    Description

We’re a British family of four - Tom, Lucy, Betty (5) and Mila (2) who have moved from England to the Spanish Pyrenees in search of a more tranquil life surrounded by nature, where we can make the most of life together while we turn a run-down farmhouse into our dream home, and try to become a little bit self-sufficient!

We recently gave up city life in England for rural life in Spain, so you could learn from us the differences in the two and what it's like to adjust to such a big change. We are still getting used to it ourselves! Doing a Workaway like this was actually what helped us decide to take the leap and make this life-change for ourselves.

There is so much to do around us! Directly from our door step you can do incredible hikes and mountain biking routes. There's lots of climbing and Via Ferratas, plus wild swimming in rivers and lakes. We're located near three different national parks that boast stunning peaks with incredible views. If you come between Nov - April, you can ski just an hour away from here.

We live in Valle de La Fueva - an area rich in outdoor activities, incredible views, history, culture and so much more. There is roman heritage here dating back to the early 11th century! The valley is home to a collection of characterful little villages to explore and a real sense of community.
There's lots of local festivals that can be really fun to be a part of and get a taste for local life and the history that helped shape it. It is a farming valley, so there's lots of animals to enjoy as well as beautiful local produce that we can help you source.

The nearby town of Aínsa is a medieval town awarded "Uno de los pueblos más bonitos en España" - one of Spain's most beautiful towns. It's old town is perched atop a hill and is absolutely stunning. It's a tourism hub so there's often lots going on there. You can climb the bell tower to take in 360 degree views of the region.

The valley is home to beautiful birds of prey including Pyrenean vultures and eagles - there's an eco museum nearby where you can learn all about them and other local fauna.
There's also tons of outdoor adventure activities nearby such as canyoning, paragliding, kayaking and more. The town of Aínsa (17 mins away by car) is the base for a lot of these things, as well as having everything you may need in terms of shops / bars/ restaurants, tourism centre and museums.

The cities of Zaragoza, Huesca and Barcelona are a few hours away and could be explored on a weekend.

We are looking for a pair to come and stay with us long term ( ideally a few months). We would love to get to know you so you can become part of the family and really get to know the area and all it has to offer! If you're looking for somewhere beautiful to spend the winter and gain some cool experiences, we're ready for you!
You will have your own private accommodation (a large caravan with king-sized bed, kitchen, living area and bathroom) and all food will be provided.
In exchange we're looking for help on the project and with caring for the children after school.
There is a huge variety or things that can be done here, depending on your interests and skills. Tom is a builder by trade and we are doing the renovation work ourselves, so if you're interested in picking up any practical skills there's not much Tom couldn't show you. We have land where we are preparing to grow food, and have a menagerie of chickens, ducks and quails. We're hoping to add more animals soon.
Our girls are 5 and 2, they are full of life and very sociable! It's been really fun watching them make connections with our helpers so far.
If you're into digital / social media we’re really keen to find help with making videos.
This could be a great opportunity for a digital nomad / remote worker to spend the winter somewhere different.
We want to fill our space with interesting people who we can learn from, and who can learn from us - we hope that no matter what your interests you'd find it really fulfilling spending time here.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We currently live in the farm house (pre-renovation) with Workawayers staying in their own caravan in one of our large barns. It’s an extremely large and comfortable caravan with King-sized bed, toilet, fully functioning kitchen and living area, plus access to a warm outdoor shower and additional composting toilet. You can of course make full use of all the outdoor space as well - there's a little pool, chill out area and outdoor dining area.
Alternatively you are welcome to bring your own campervan to stay in and we can set you up in one of the barns with water / power/ shade.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There isn't tons of public transport around but there are a couple of local taxis and buses. We're happy to take you places if you need. A 40-minute drive will take you to Barbastro, our nearest big town where transport links open up to cities such as Lleida, Huesca, Zaragoza and Barcelona. You're own car would be very useful but not essential.

The village where our children go to school (Tierrantona - you can walk to it in 30 mins / 10 mins cycle / five mins in the car) has a little shop and 2 bar/restaurants, as well as municipal swimming pool, BBQ area, playground and tennis courts. And our village is tiny, just a collection of houses but it has a little playground and BBQ area as well, plus the most incredible views!

    Can possibly accept pets

Happy to accept any pets that are super friendly and won’t be bothered by noisy, excitable small children! Our kids absolutely love animals but we obviously want to keep them safe. The property isn’t fenced so they’d need to be happy just staying near you or being tied up if they’re likely to wander (the road isn’t busy though). And they would need to be safe around the chickens / ducks/ quails.
