We are a private school, specialized in preparing and educating volunteers for development projects in Africa, India, and South America. The school is situated at Hornsjøen (in Norwegian: The Beautiful Lake) in 883 meters altitude, 36 km North-East of Lillehammer and it shares buildings with a Hotel: in the wintertime ski resort for cross country skiing, in the summertime a beloved starting point for trekking in the mountains.
The school was founded in 1978 and has since then educated students for action in the Southern part of Africa and in India. The school has a no-alcohol, no-drugs policy which also applies to guests :)
The school and it's guests have access to a swimming pool, sauna, a small gym, table tennis, and billiard room. Furthermore in the summertime canoes and bicycles. In the wintertime, there is access to ski equipment for cross-country skiing, snowboards, and sledges.
The school is run by us who are here, students and teachers, which means we cook, clean, maintain the buildings and meet challenges together. Our weekly Common Meeting governs the school (VERY different from any other school we have heard of.... :)
This also means, that when you are part of our community for a while, you will be running the school together with us.
Help with Computers / internet
It's a different concept of a school in a very international environment of European Youth. You get to experience community life in a very beautiful place with open-minded people who love to volunteer and travel!
You will help us to make photos/videos about our school and the programs we have in the school.
Since you are a graphics designer/web developer your own computer with your own software is a must.
You will live in one of the school rooms with a private shower and toilet. The rooms are around 8-14 m2. You have access to the school's kitchen, dining room and library (which often are used as a relaxing room and film room in the afternoons/ evenings).
In your time-of (depending upon if it is winter or summer) you can:
1) Do cross country skiing, build snow caves, ice-fishing, sauna, swimming pool, play music yourself (piano or guitar), billiard, table tennis, use our small gym, enjoy the nice environment with many young people from all over Europe preparing themselves for a 9 month stay in Africa or Asia.
2) Canoe or swim on a beautiful lake, stay overnight - and barbecue - at the small island in the lake, do trekking in the mountains and stay overnight in a Norwegian cottage, go on moose safari, bicycling, fishing (fishing card needed), play volleyball outside, photograph amazing nature and much, much more.....
Transport up and down the mountain has to be organized in connection with the schools shopping etc. There is no public transport, so you have to be flexible when a school transport is at hand.
