Our hostel is located at the centre of everything that is happening in Lower Main Road Observatory.
Our building – a former museum of contemporary art – is full of character, personality, and the perfect place to meet both local and international travellers. We seem to be starting our own art gallery with all the art that has been gifted by volunteers and guests alike. Come experience our perfect-for-sunrise-watching and perfect-for-people-watching balcony: There are few streets as interesting as Lower Main Road.

Observatory is the place where the different sides of Cape Town’s personality all combine into one whole: Here you will find people of all descriptions. Everyone is welcome.
There is never the slightest chance of a corporate sameness in Observatory and especially in Lower Main Rd . The shops, restaurants (and accommodation!) are all individual, creative, cool, quirky, fascinating and non-conformist.
We are currently looking for female volunteers only (this is because of the dorm style accommodation available). You would need to be able to stay for about 3 months (no less than 2 and a half months). We ask for 25 hours per week and duties include housekeeping, reception, social media and just creating a warm atmosphere for guests.
A staff dormitory, with en-suite bathroom. This room is only occupied by staff, never guests. Breakfast and free internet is also included for staff.
You must have a passion for travel, a passion for people, and a passion for meeting others from different cultures and from around the world. Chatting to people and learning from them has to excite you and really push your buttons. If you will make our location an even better place, we would love to speak to you.
