Description
On our patch we are undertaking a huge reveg project. So far we have planted more than 50 000 native seedlings.
We also grow alot of our own food, providing much of our own fruit, veg and meat.
We've had so many different folk involved in what we are doing - it is our passion to share our place with as many others as we can!
Our patch sits amidst vast areas of state forest, nature reserves and rural farmland.
The forest is home to many endangered species and we aim to provide further habitat opportunities for these beautiful creatures through our revegetation works. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We ard both widely travelled folk and the town(Manjimup) we live near is a multi-cultural community. Manjimup hosts a huge diversity of travellers due to the availability of seasonal agricultural and horticultural work available.
Between us, Neil and I have extensive knowledge of our natural environment and conservation challenges (we have between us more than 70 years experience working in conservation services in Austealia).
We pocess a working knowledge of permaculture practices and regenerative agricultural practices also. We are very keen to share our knowledge and experience in these areas.
Further, Neil is an accomplished wood turner and timber maker, as well as steel fabrication knowledge and abilities.
I have extensive plant and herbal therapies knowledge - always happy to share this knowledge.
We are very 'self-sufficient' people who find ways to create what we need from what we have!
We live to hear other people's stories, to learn from others and gain understanding from other perspectives. -
Help
We are seeking folk who are keen to get involved in all aspects of life on our patch.
There could be native seedling planting at the right time of the year (late autumn & winter) or tree guard removal from previous years plantings (done all year round).
Perhaps you are interested in food production: our food growing is loosely based on permaculture principles and I'd be delighted to share my knowledge on this. You can help with relevant seasonal work in the fruit and veg growing (planning, planting, mulching, harvesting, etc.). I grow a number of therapeutic herbs and make my own products (deodorant paste, moisturisers, salves and balms, tintures, etc).
We have two milking cows and enjoy making yoghurt and cheeses with the milk our girls share with us. Milking occurs usually twice a day and we hand milk. We have sheep also. Our grazing animals are part of our regenerative approach to land management, so there is frequent moving of stock between grazing cells.
We have poultry (chickens, ducks and geese) to manage. As well as meat rabbits.
There is a lot going on and we are keen to involve our guests with all facets of our lifestyle. -
Languages
Languages spoken
English: FluentThis host offers a language exchange
We are both English speaking Aussies. Happy to help others become more proficient in speaking English -
Accommodation
We offer a caravan (double bed with linen and bedding) with hardwall annexe as accommodation. There is a gas cooktop and refridgerator, along with toaster, electric kettle and culterly/crockery etc. for self catering (breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc).
An adjacent ablution contains toilet and shower (gas hot water).
One main meal per day will be shared with us at our cottage.
Our guests will have access to whatever we have available from our food production for other meals. -
What else ...
As we are around 20minutes from town, you will need to have your own transport if you wanted to regularly go to town. We do go in around twice a week. There is no public transport to or from.
The greater area offers diverse and interesting opportunities for exploring and we would encourage our guests to do this.
As ex-national park rangers, we have an excellent knowledge of WA's natural wonders and will happily guide you to areas that fit your interests.
Our life is very peaceful, surrounded by the sounds and rythms of nature.
We live off-grid with our own sloar powrt supply and rain-water tanks for porable water.
We are early to bed and early to rise kind of people.
Folk who are comfortable with not being entertained by the digital world but prefer the company of bird song, sunrises and sunsets and the wind in the trees will find our patch to their liking. -
