Welcome to our home in Navan, County Meath

    Hello and welcome!

We’re a friendly family based in Navan, County Meath, just 40 minutes from Dublin. I work from home as a journalist and digital content creator, covering schools, community stories and local events across Meath. Every day is different, which makes life interesting—but also very busy!

I’m looking for a proactive, organised and positive female Workawayer who genuinely enjoys creating a calm, tidy home. If you’re the kind of person who notices what needs doing without being asked, we’ll probably be a great match.

The biggest help for me is keeping the household running smoothly while I’m working. This includes:

    • Tidying and organising living spaces.
    • Keeping bedrooms and shared areas neat.
    • Folding and organising clothes.
    • Meal preparation and helping with food organisation.
    • Filling and emptying the dishwasher.
    • General household organisation.

For safety and insurance reasons, I prefer to operate the washing machine, dishwasher and other appliances myself. There is a local launderette in Navan for personal laundry, which many visitors find convenient.

My daughter Katie is at the heart of our home. She’s kind, thoughtful and loves good company. It’s really important that anyone staying with us enjoys spending time with children and helps create a positive, relaxed atmosphere. Occasionally, I may need some evening childcare while I’m attending events or classes.

Because of my work, there are sometimes opportunities to attend local events, festivals and community occasions with me. If you have an interest in photography, videography or social media, that’s a bonus—but it’s certainly not essential. The right personality is far more important than technical skills.

In return, you’ll have plenty of free time to explore. Navan is a vibrant town with cafés, shops, heritage sites, beautiful walks and excellent public transport to Dublin, Newgrange, Trim and the east coast.

We offer comfortable accommodation, home-cooked meals and the opportunity to experience everyday Irish family life. We enjoy getting to know people from different cultures, sharing stories and creating a home where everyone feels welcome and respected.

If you’re independent, organised, warm-hearted and happy to become part of family life for a while, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note: We welcome female, non-smoking Workawayers only.

You’ll have plenty of chances to immerse yourself in local culture from daily morning walks with me and the dog to day trips to nearby heritage sites like the Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, or even Dublin City.
So, all in all, you'll become more independent, maybe learn new skills, deepen cultural understanding, and bring home cherished memories of your time in Ireland.

    Your key responsibilities

Your main role is to help keep our home organised so I can focus on my work during the day. I’m looking for someone who is proactive, takes initiative and enjoys creating a calm, tidy environment.

    Your responsibilities will include:

Keeping the house clean and organised
Daily tidying of shared living areas, vacuuming, dusting, wiping surfaces, making beds where needed, keeping the kitchen clean and organising clothes, cupboards and storage so the house stays neat and welcoming.

    Kitchen support and meal preparation
Helping prepare lunches or evening meals, chopping vegetables, organising the fridge and pantry, filling and emptying the dishwasher and leaving the kitchen clean and ready for the next day. I enjoy cooking myself, so this is about working together rather than doing all the cooking.

    Dog walking
We have a friendly dog who loves his walks. A morning walk and an evening stroll are usually all he needs. We’ll provide everything you need, including waste bags.

    Occasional childcare
From time to time, I attend evening events or classes for work, so I may ask you to spend a few hours with my daughter. She’s kind, funny and enjoys chatting, crafts, baking, films and getting out for little adventures. Her happiness and comfort are the most important part of this arrangement, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys spending time with children and will become a positive role model in our home.

    A proactive attitude
Rather than waiting to be asked, we’re hoping to find someone who naturally notices what needs doing and enjoys taking pride in a well-run home. Small things really do make a big difference.

If you have experience with photography, videography or social media, that’s a lovely bonus and there may be opportunities to accompany me to community events as part of my journalism work. However, this is entirely optional and not a requirement of the placement.

    Exploring Ireland

Navan is a fantastic base for anyone keen to explore Ireland. Located in the heart of County Meath, you’ll find plenty of history, culture and outdoor activities right on your doorstep.

Nearby attractions include Trim Castle, the Hill of Tara, Slane Castle, Bective Abbey, the Boyne Valley and many beautiful walking routes. For something a little different, Emerald Park is just a short journey away.

There is plenty to do locally too, with cafés, shops, a swimming pool, library, cinema and community events throughout the year. English conversation classes are often held in the local library on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, although you should make enquiries directly before travelling to ensure places are available.

Our home works best when everyone has a good balance between helping out and enjoying their own independence. You’re very welcome to use our house as a base for exploring Ireland, meeting friends and making the most of your free time.

When you’re helping in the home, you’ll be treated as part of the family and meals will be provided. On days when you’re travelling independently or taking time away, you’ll be responsible for your own arrangements.

We are also happy for Workawayers to take holidays or spend time travelling during their stay, provided this is discussed and agreed well in advance.

If you’ve read our profile carefully, please include the words “Here to Help” in the subject line of your message. It helps us know you’ve taken the time to read and understand what we’re looking for.

We look forward to hearing from someone who is independent, trustworthy, enjoys family life and is excited to experience Ireland from a local perspective.

    Teddy (4 years)

Teddy likes to be left on his own, but hates to be alone.
He doesnt like to be picked up, but he loves to be in your company and will join you for cuddles when he is comfortable in your company.
Teddy is very much the boss of the house. He doesnt like cats or the postman.
He loves long walks, especially when he can go off leash in the countryside. He also loves his walks around the neighbourhood. He is a very quiet dog, and only seems to bark at night when he wants to go to bed or wants a treat. He is such a great dog!
