Description
We live in a cosy, rainforest tree house close to the city of Brisbane and I'm seeking to build a stand alone composting toilet in the backyard using found materials form our local Treasure Island. The outhouse would be an outdoor alternative for when outside gardening, using the sauna or just a longer walk to the loo. A handy/outdoorsie person would be ideal for this type of project.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We have a thriving local community with everything from daily morning exercise and monthly table tennis night, food and music gatherings, knowledge sharing talks. Rainforest hikes, Rock pools for swimming, the Phoenix Sculpture Garden and Treasure Island to visit. Brisbane city is only 45 minutes away by car. I can teach sourdough bread making and about native edible flora and we enjoy watching films, playing board games and philosophical discussions.

Help
We'll be sharing skills and building the outhouse together. Things like digging holes, building the frame, installing a refurbished door, windows and the clivus multrum composting toilet. I have little to no experience with this kind of thing but I have plenty of knowledgeable neighbours and I'm keen to give it a go with some help.

I speak English, German, Maltese and a bit of Spanish, we could practice language, I certainly could use the practice, mostly speaking English and some German at home.
Accommodation
A furnished bedroom with queen futon bed, desk and small open wardrobe. At the moment we have one toilet separate to the bath and shower room but in the near future we'll have 2 toilets! We also have a second cold water shower on the deck for sauna use.
Our meals are spontaneous and generally unplanned and we welcome keen cooks. We always buy at an organic market on weekends so only the highest quality food goes in. We eat meat and fish but could easily adapt to a vegan diet for the time if required.
Below are cuisine options but we're open to most things.
Breakfast: scrambled eggs, omelette, buckwheat, porridge, pancakes, toast or croissant.
Lunch: salad, fruit, soup, rice.
Dinner: stews, curries, stir frys, soups, roasts, pastas, pizzas.
We have many cook books available too.
My husband does most of the cooking and it's nearly always amazing!
What else ...
The nearest train station is a 20 minute drive down the mountain, we have bicycles to use to get around. On Sunday or Saturday we go to the organic Vegetable Market and could drop you off and pick up or do day trips out and about.

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
This happens rarely but when the power is out the local hall and cafe have generators and we can use the space to access internet. We haven't been encouraged to buy our own generator because it's been a very manageable time with still having access to hot water, gas cooking and wood fire heating.

Can possibly accept pets
Depending how well trained the pet is.
