*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ PLEASE - WE ONLY HAVE A SINGLE ROOM FOR ONE PERSON AND DO NOT HAVE ROOM FOR COUPLES OR FAMILY VOLUNTEERS *️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️
LOOKING FOR A VOLUTNEER WHO IS INTERESTED IN STAYING WITH US FOR 2 MONTHS OR LONGER.
Anyone arriving to Ireland from an EU/EEA Country, the UK or USA and are fully vaccinated with a Digital Covid Certificate, do not have to test before coming to Ireland, or isolate after arrival. People arriving from other destinations should check with the Department of Health for any Covid-19 travels restrictions that may be in place for the country you are coming from.
We live along the East coast of Ireland with our house overlooking the Irish Sea and local golf course in the beautiful port town of Wicklow (about 45 mins drive by car south of Dublin city centre). We live in a 5 bedroomed house with our 6 year old twin boys, our older son (14 yrs) and daughter (16 yrs), throw in the dog and you could say that we have a busy household - the profile picture is a little out of date becuase we can't get the teenagers to sit for another photo :-(
There is plenty to do in Wicklow town and surrounding county - including hill walking, mountain/road biking, kayaking, sea swimming, surfing, fishing, trail running or just take it easy in one of the local pubs (when they open again) or coffee shops. We have a spacious 5 bedroom house with a large front and back garden that we are slowly (very) trying to put our own stamp on.
We are an active family with a healthy interest in all kinds of outdoors activities.
Babysitting and creative play
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Help around the house
We will do our best to help the Workawayer integrate with our family life. We also want them to experience the richness of the surrounding area including the hustle and bustle of local life, so we will do what we can to help the Workawayer participate in activities or travel that interests them (travel is currently very limited due to Covid-19 restrictions).
Most of our past Workawayers liked to travel at weekends, however, if they wished to stay with us in Wicklow that is ok too. The only thing we ask of Workawayers staying with us during weekends is that they help out in preperation and cleanup of any meals that they have partaken in. You are of course also welcome to take part in other family activities on weekends if you so wish.
We have equipment the workawayers can borrow (bikes, kayak, surf board, etc.) and there are other workawayers in the area who we can introduce you to.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️Due to limited space in our house we are NOT looking for any couples or family volunteers.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️Very important!!!! Please make sure that you are comfortable around young children. The twins are great fun and can be very engaging, but they are still at the age where they need to be comforted, entertained / played with, read to, etc..... they will fall in love with you quickly :-)
We mainly need help around the house.
1a). In the morning (on school days) helping get four children ready for school and out the door - during Covid restrictions this may mean helping the younger ones with online home schooling.
1b). In the morning (during school holidays) helping getting the two smaller ones fed and out the door to play with their friends.
2). During the afternoon we require help with minding the twins (they finish school around 14:00, this may include collecting them), helping them with homework, maybe going for a walk or a cycle with them, etc. During periods of Covid restrictions we will require that the volunteer take charge of the household while both parents are working.
3). Cook dinner 2 or 3 nights a week.
4). General housework could include washing/folding clothes, cleaning the kitchen after meals and other normal day to day housework.
5). When you are partaking in any meal in the house, you will be expected to help in preparation and clean-up
6). Our family dog loves to be walked, we have a wonderful cliff walk near the house that is great to stretch your legs and let the dog have some fun at the same time.
The volunteer will have following provided by us, without charge
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ Have a large single room to themselves on the ground floor of our two storey house. You will have to share a bathroom with the rest of the family, but there are more than one.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ WiFi internet
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ Bed linen and towels
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ Washing facilities for clothing
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️ All meals while you are in the house - we have our main meal in the evening around 18:00 and we aim to eat this together. It would be nice to have the other meals together, but it does not always happen. Packed lunches for personal day trips should be organised separately.
*️️️️️️️️️️️️️️️We are reasonably flexible when it comes to food, however, we are not vegetarian/vegan and if you are then you will have to be flexible with us. We do not cater for fad eating/celebrity diets such as Athkins, Paleo, etc..
Part of our family are bilingual in English/Norwegian. We live about a 20 mins walk from the town centre. There are plenty of local beaches and cliffs walks in the area and we are happy to help volunteers make as much of there time while staying with us - we have bikes and kayaks available for use.
