Description
Hi! My name is Paula, 56 years old, from Porto, and four years ago I moved with my dog Ifi to a village up north of Portugal, Oleiros, in the heart of a natural park called Parque Natural de Montesinho. My purpose is living here and developing projects at a local level.
The house, with a nice garden, is a very special place. I have been renovating it and enjoying fixing old woods and stone walls, with professional help and also a lot of DIY; there is still work to be done. I intend to turn my home into a warm place to welcome people who actively would like to participate in the life of the village and region, in its natural, social and cultural dimensions.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This region, Parque Natural de Montesinho, is extremely rich at the natural, social, historical and cultural level. It has so much to offer! I am happy to answer your questions and present more details. As for myself, I used to work as a social sciences' researcher. I have a passion for nature, music and books; I believe I can be a good guide and show you this amazing Portuguese region.
Help
Tasks in the house and garden are meant to be ongoing and main renovations are to be carried on so that the household is functional and efficient. The most important interventions are done — new roof, walls, isolation, solar panels, heating, etc — others will follow; it is also important to focus on details, inside and outside, like refurbishing furniture, painting, decorating, rearranging space. So I am looking for people who really enjoy nature and a simple life, with skills such as DIY and gardening, while volunteering in a beautiful rural region.

What else ...
On your free time you can get to know Oleiros and the many villages of the Parque Natural de Montesinho — it is the ideal place for nature lovers with its immense biodiversity. You can go birdwatching, hiking, cycling swimming in amazing places, eating at fantastic restaurants.
Oleiros is 7Km away from Bragança, capital of the district, which is a very interesting place to discover - there are all services and commerces with great monuments, like a beautiful castle, and great social and cultural life.
Except during August, we have buses, twice a day, from the village to the city. On top of that, transportation from Bragança to other cities is easy and cheap (for instance, you can take a FIixbus for less than 10 euros to Porto) and Spain is just around the corner!A little more information
