Description
Our school is a modern bilingual grammar school located in the beautiful UNESCO town of Banská Štiavnica, surrounded by nature, history, culture, and a strong community spirit. We provide high-quality secondary education with a focus on international cooperation, languages, innovation, and global citizenship.
We offer both a four-year general study programme and a five-year English-Slovak bilingual programme. Our aim is to prepare students for university studies in Slovakia and abroad while helping them develop critical thinking, communication skills, creativity, and openness towards other cultures. English plays an important role in everyday school life, especially in our bilingual programme, where students receive intensive language preparation and later study selected subjects in English.
Our school environment is dynamic, welcoming, and internationally oriented. We actively participate in Erasmus+ projects, international exchanges, and intercultural activities. Teachers use modern teaching methods, digital tools, project-based learning, and collaborative approaches that encourage students to become active and responsible young people.
We are currently looking for motivated English-, French-, Spanish-, and German-speaking lecturers who would like to become part of our team. This opportunity is ideal for university students with an educational background who are looking for teaching practice, as well as enthusiastic individuals who want to share their language skills, gain international experience, discover a unique region, and build meaningful intercultural connections.
By joining us, you will become part of a friendly and supportive school community while experiencing life in one of the most charming towns in Slovakia — a place full of history, art, nature, cafés, festivals, and inspiring people. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Workawayers will become part of our friendly school community and will have many opportunities to connect with teachers, students, and local people. We often organize cultural events, international days, school projects, workshops, trips to nature, hikes around the beautiful surroundings of Banská Štiavnica, and informal gatherings where everyone can share experiences, ideas, and traditions. Workawayers are welcome to join local festivals, cafés, concerts, and community activities that make our town such a unique and inspiring place.
As a school focused on languages, international cooperation, and modern education, we can share teaching experience, creative classroom methods, project-based learning approaches, digital skills, and insights into Erasmus+ and intercultural projects. Workawayers can also learn more about Slovak culture, traditions, everyday life, and our educational system while gaining practical experience working with young people. -

Help
Workawayers joining our school community will mainly support language learning and international activities. Depending on their qualifications, interests, skills, and experience, they may teach English, French, German, or Spanish lessons, help students improve their speaking confidence through conversations and interactive activities, participate in creative workshops, after-school clubs, Erasmus+ projects, cultural events, or help organize international days and presentations.
Depending on their educational qualifications and the applicable Slovak legislation, workawayers/teachers may be offered either a standard employment contract (based on their recognized educational qualifications) or a lecturer's contract. In both cases, they can expect at least the statutory minimum wage, with the possibility of higher remuneration depending on qualifications, experience, and the scope of responsibilities.
We highly value informal learning and intercultural exchange, so workawayers are encouraged to share their own culture, traditions, hobbies, and ideas with students and colleagues. They may lead small-group discussions, games, presentations, or creative activities connected to their interests and talents.
Most activities are carried out together with our teachers and students in a supportive and friendly environment. We see this experience as mutual learning—while international participants help our students improve their language and communication skills, they also gain valuable teaching experience, discover Slovak culture, learn about our educational system, and become an active part of everyday life in our school and local community. -

Accommodation
Workawayers will stay in a clean, safe, and private one-room apartment located directly in the school building, which offers convenient access to the school and the town centre. The apartment includes basic furniture, a bed, storage space, Wi-Fi connection, and a small kitchen area where volunteers can prepare their own meals comfortably.
We want our guests to feel welcome and at home during their stay. Depending on the schedule and school activities, workawayers may occasionally join teachers or local colleagues for shared meals, cultural events, or informal gatherings. There are also grocery stores, cafés, and restaurants within walking distance from the school.
Living directly at the school provides a unique opportunity to become part of our daily school community while still having privacy and personal space after activities and classes. -
What else ...
During their free time, Workawayers can explore the beautiful UNESCO town of Banská Štiavnica, which offers a unique mix of history, culture, cafés, museums, galleries, and lively student atmosphere. The surrounding area is ideal for hiking, cycling, and spending time in nature, with lakes, forests, and scenic viewpoints just a short walk or bus ride away. Seasonal cultural events, local festivals, and small community gatherings also provide great opportunities to experience authentic Slovak life.
Transport around the area is simple and convenient. The town centre is within walking distance from the school, and there are regular bus and train connections to nearby cities such as Zvolen and Bratislava. Bikes are also a good option for getting around locally.
We value a respectful and friendly living environment. Workawayers are expected to keep their apartment clean and tidy, respect quiet hours, and be considerate of the school environment, as the accommodation is located directly in the school building. We appreciate open communication, mutual respect, and a positive attitude towards shared spaces and community life. -
