This is an English language school for the youth of the Mon ethnic minority group withn Myanmar. We are based in Mawlamyine, which is located about six hours bus ride south of Yangon, in Mon State.
There are currently about 20 students in the age group 18 to 24. Thiis varies depending on the time of year, and whether it is term time. They live separately according to gender in boarding house together with the teachers. When there are many students, we divide them into two classes. Otherwise they all work together in a single mixed-ability group.
The objective of the program is: to empower and motivate a younger generation to work for their communities and help them get into leadership positions.
The duration of stay can vary, starting with a few days to a few weeks. We can't support with visa or travel expenses because of limited resources.
We require 1-3 hours of organizing activities per day and spending time with the students afterwards (e.g. helping them with their homework, engaging with them in conversation, and helping with extra-curricular activities).

We are willing to introduce you to the rich culture and include you into the lifestyle in Myanmar. In exchange, we expect high commitment to support the students in their needs and work well together with the other teachers. You will learn about the Mon people, who are culturally different from Burmese, with their own language.
Mawlamyine used to be the old capital during the early days of British rule. It is famous for old-style colonial buildings made of wood, and the architecture reflects that period. It is located on the estuary of a river, and used to be a port city. It is a wonderful city to wander around. There are many other attractions in Mon State, all within a few hours drive away.
We are searching for volunteers who are not only fluent in English language but also have other skills to share with our students, in order to support the students learn as much as possible. You don't necessarily need to have experience with teaching but it is desirable if you know how to work with groups and have knowledge of the political and social background of the ethnic minorities in Myanmar.
You can bring your personal expertise to teach to the students, as we are quite flexible with the program.
Please don't hesitate to send us some information about you, and your professional knowledge and skills, so that we can see how you can fit into our program.
We can provide food and basic accommodation in a small, but separate room for one person or couple. Double bed. Fan. Mattress. Shared meals.
