    Description

Hi Folks! I'm Lisa and I've been a workaway host for many years from my house in Treme. I run a photo organization in town and work with galleries and photographers. I now live in the Central Business District in a beautiful historic apartment on gallery row. My landlord is and apartment-mate is Jack, a New Orleans icon who has spent his life advocating for historic preservation, wrote a book on the history of New Orleans theaters, and is in a 40+ year running orchestra. He has been diagnosed with Parkinson's with early dementia and needs extra help making sure he takes his meds, eats and drinks water. He can no longer get down the two flights of stairs with ease so he's pretty lonely upstairs and would love some companionship. He's incredibly interesting and bright and has a dry sense of humor. He knows every street in the city. He played the clarinet, piccolo and flute in a band called the New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra. Jack has a unique group of art friends who care for him deeply. I've known him for 15 months and am doing what I can to help out but I travel often so I am not able to spend the time I would like to with him.

The apartment is one of the historic 7 sister buildings. It's incredibly beautiful in the heart of New Orleans Arts District. 10 minute walk to the quarter, right on the St Charles street car route. This is located in the Arts District of New Orleans among galleries and fine dining.

I have a painting of Jack on my wall by his friend George who has a gallery downstairs. They've been in the New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra for years. He has a 4 story building full of books, instruments and paperwork. You'll be in the heart of the arts district on gallery row in one of the most sought-after places to live in the city especially for young professionals.

This opportunity would be best for someone with experience with caretaking, hospitality or working with elders or children. Someone who is caring and patient. I would like for Jack to have some company help remembering to take his meds, and help with cooking meals. The quality of his life would be so much better. There is a nurse coming three days a week to help out with bathing and changing the bedsheets. This would be ideal for anyone with emt, nursing, elder care experience who is interested in the arts, history, preservation and talking to a brilliant kinda ornery 78-year-old who is starting to lose his memory. I live downstairs and welcome anyone.
