This was our first time as workawayers and we couldn’t have asked for more! We had a lovely time at Bridget’s, so much that we didn’t wanna leave! We went there for two/three weeks and ended up staying almost two months. Bridget was also kind enough to welcome us back again after a disappointing experience with another host.
What to say? First,
… read more the place is great and the location amazing! At night you fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and when you wake up you feel glorious; it doesn’t matter if it rains or if it’s windy outside, just looking out the window is enough to feel at peace with the world.
Every day we went for long walks and we had a lot of free time to explore the area, to go to the Cliffs of Moher and to visit the towns near our place, such as Milltown, Lahinch, Ennistymon, Liscannor.
After some hesitation, we finally plucked up courage to jump in the ocean… best decision ever! It felt unbelievably great and after that first time we became addicted. Every sunny day was swim day!
We had our weekends off, so we were able to visit around and we spent fantastic time in Galway, Killarney, Doolin and Lahinch.
The workload was more than fine; loads of things to do and lots of different activities, from gardening and cutting grass to painting, cleaning and organize stuff (which we were pro at 😉). Bridget was flexible with working hours and we never worked under pressure. We enjoyed doing everything and listening to music while working helped!
Last but not least, Bridget is wonderful! She is a very easy going person and great craic! We had really nice walks with her, to Spanish point, to St. Brigid’s Well (a very unique place), to Ennistymon, to the Burren national park and so on. She’s an excellent host, in just a couple of days we felt completely at ease. She was also very supportive and gave us great suggestions about our future as psychologists (giving us a bit of hope too). We miss her and we miss our movie nights with her, the perfect ending to long, but happy, days.
We also spent great time with the rest of the family. And what a family! Everyone was extremely nice, kind, caring and fun to be with and there always was this relaxed and chill out atmosphere around the house.
We loved the afternoons spent drinking tea/coffee with Arthur, looking at his artworks and eating cookies (and scones). Bridget’s sons are the best! Tom was always there when you needed a ride, always available and super friendly. We spent lots of time with Kieran, watching movies in his “cave” and having fun. He’s an upbeat guy, always cheerful and very pleasant to be with. The two O’Connell brothers, Kieran and Jon, took us to lots of their gigs and we loved it! To the magical ones in Doolin on Monday nights to the reggae/ska ones, which were lot of fun. We met cool people there and we miss deeply not only Jon and Kieran, but the other band members too, that made us feel one of them. We still can’t believe how lucky we were and how lovely everyone was.
Bridget and her family, not to mention Indy the dog, became special to us and we know we will always be welcomed there, to a place that feels like home. We left a piece of heart there and can’t wait to see everyone again!
Thank you for everything Bridget, it was like living a dream!

We spent just a few days at Bridget’s place, but it was an all in all perfect stay. We painted and organized a room with bathroom that she rents out to guests. It was a really pleasant job and Bridget was flexible with working hours if we made sure to get the job done within the time frame (which we thought was a really nice principle). We ended

Bridget and her son Kieran are really friendly and just very easy to be around with. They offer you rides (on which you depend if you are not comfortable hitchhiking) and amazing food. During our short stay we handled the cooking quite flexibly, whoever had time was cooking for the rest. Kieran took us to his concert in a really adorable irish pub full of kind people and great music. We enjoyed it a lot! Generally, you can communicate your expectations and needs to Bridget and she will do her best to arrange it.
If you come during the winter months, be aware that it is not warm at all times as it is a big farm house. But in front of the fire place it is always nice and cozy. And then there is the dog who will make it even cozier, once she is used to your present.
We can highly reccomend helping out at Bridgets place beacuse of the people, picturesque views and lovely dog called Indie. We are really happy that we got to spend our time with Bridget and Kieran and we would always come back for a longer period. Guys, we appreciate your help and kindness, thank you! Bridget, as you know, you are really nice person! Hope everything goes well for you!

I have been for two weeks and have been amazing ones good two weeks of sunny days, fortunately, in one of the most beautiful places of Ireland. I had a great time at Bridget. I stayed during 2 weeks (without rain !). Bridget received me friendly. I worked on my own, but her sister had 2 others workers, so we could see each other. Her son is a musician and makes many concerts in the region; he even drived me to one of his concerts.

This was our first time with a workaway experience and we really had a great stay with Bridget and her family. The house was nice and located in an enviable and quiet enviroment. my experience with Matt and Jen was that they were not here to work, they have been my least favourite people to come to my house, unable or unwilling to follow simple instructions, and constantly picking up things wrong that I would say to them. despite constant reminders that we start work about 9 or 9.30 Jen rarely appeared in my kitchen before
… read more 10.30 and would then take app. 1 hr. to complete her breakfast.
I live in a beautiful place and they rarely went out, except to the pub when they were driven by my son, they seemed to have a fear to explore the area.
I am flexible and easy going and they were hrd work, spending most of free time on computer or phone thus making conversation very difficult.
I tried to talk to them and Matt became agressive and didn't listen, My regret is that I did not ask them to leave when it became obvious these guys had there own agenda and were not trying to fit into the schedule of the household.
As for leaving at weekends, just another misinterpertration of something I said and despite repeating to Matt that that is not what I said or meant he is putting it on feedback.
Very difficult couple to have in your home.

Our stay with Bridget lasted 17 days. Our emails would take 3 or 4 days to get responded to and it wasn't until the day before our anticipated arrival that we were given an address or phone number. There were some surprises when we arrived that we had not previously encountered. We were told that we were expected to be out of the house every
… read more weekend so that she could have time to herself, and when we were unable to make arrangements to be gone our first weekend we were met with some hostility, even after explaining that the costs of travel were not in our budget. The closest bus stop is 5 miles away, so even when you do want to go out on excursions one of the family members who live in the community needs to drive you and you need to figure out a way to bet back. Bridget goes to other towns for work each week, and that created an issue where we were accused of lying about our work hours when she returned, which wasn't the case but difficult to prove our case nonetheless. Even though this was one of our least favorite workaway experiences, there were some enjoyable aspects of staying with Bridget. The work in the garden, tending to the chickens, and the two times stacking turf at the bog were each fun. She has great sons who play music in local bands and are always willing to bring you along for shows. The property itself is beautiful and located near walking paths and a small beach.
Things to keep in mind are that alcohol is frowned upon and not provided and we were not allowed to keep any in the fridge, however her sons smoke in the house. Bridget is gluten free and a vegetarian. The bed is quite uncomfortable to the point of hurting our backs.
Even though there were some initial uncomfortable situations, there was a noticeable improvement in relations a few days before we were scheduled to leave, and things ended amicably. Bridget has a new puppy who is very cute and she was also kind enough to take us to the bus in Ennis when we left. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
