    Description

This Covid crises is effecting us all but if you are in SA and are allowed to move , then we will consider inviting you. We live on the 10 acre smallholding 5 minutes from the beach. This tranquil, tree filled property is what remains of an original farm which is over 100 years old and steeped in historic stories. There are plenty of old buildings that have been converted into dwellings, workshops, Pizza house etc.
Our main activity is the cultivation of Aloes and succulent plant for landscaping and sale. We have a large Permiculture/ Organic garden that provides us with seasonal produce on a rotational basis.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Over the years we have had visitors from around the world and can share experiences and stories of them around the weekly braai (barbeque). The whole team and other tenants all love to swap experiences and cultural stories at every opportunity. Visitors love to cook at least one meal originating from their country while here with produce sourced locally and out of the garden.Bring some bug spray as we do have mosquitoes at times during the summer months. While all bedding is provided, you are expected to provide your own towels and shampoos etc.

    Help

We require visitors to assist with the daily running and maintenance of the farm. We are undertaking new building projects and upgrading others. Work in the Permiculture garden involves composting, planting and the occasional weeding.
You may on occasion be asked to assist in cooking and occasionally shopping. We are keen users of alternate sources of power, building material, building methods etc. and knowledge of any of these would be welcomed. In addition to the work mentioned we also rebuild Vintage / veteran cars and we are also embarking on building a 22 foot sailing Yacht. Hobie's are Hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains and volunteers are welcome to partake in this if they wish ( Seasonal ) Surfing and fishing could also be done.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have space for tents as well as dormitory accommodation. with a communal ablution block and are in the process of increasing these on an ongoing basis. New double private lockable rooms are also now available when not booked by Backpackers. A large communal kitchen is available for use by the volunteers which we have found gives them independence as far as choice and preferences of food is concerned.
