Description
I am a former barrister, and my wife a former textile designer. We have 2 sons aged 21 and 17 and two Labrador dogs. We have a Georgian house and 18 acres of gardens open to the public for 60 days. There is a 35 acre farm with Dexter cattle and other animals. The house overlooks the sea and the whole area is spectacularly beautiful.

They will pick up or improve all sorts of manual skills as they work here. And appreciate and the beauty of the area and the charm of living in Ireland.
Help
We have a wide variety of tasks to do. General Maintenance of the gardens and land; this includes using strimmers, hedge cutters, and a miniature tractor. Reroofing basic farm buildings.

Accommodation
They will live in a comfortable self contained 2 bedroomed flat (one is a double) in the courtyard. It has wi fi, central heating, washing machine and dryer. They will generally cook their own meals from food supplied by us but will I hope join us for meals from time to time.

The estate is on the edge of the village of Castletownshend which, though small, has been included in the book about the 100 most beautiful villages in Ireland. It is 8km from the market town of Skibbereen which has a flourishing live music scene, an Arts centre, and a Saturday market. There are 2 bicycles, a 2 seater kayak (for those who want to explore the natural harbour and inlets), and beautiful walks. Those staying here generally love it.

We had stayed for 2 months in Thomas and Jane’s house and it was wonderful. It was our first experience as woofer and we will keep a lot of good memories. Thomas and Jane were really welcoming and kind with us. Everyone is kind in the town and we have made some friend there, Oboe and Banjoo, they are sweet too.

Camille and Xavier were with us for two months. They were wonderful workers, willing, adaptable, intelligent and hard workers. They also knew how to enjoy themselves, kayaking (collecting a huge bucket of mussels which they scrubbed and we all ate) biking great distances and walking the dogs. If you heard about their family name or about the history behind it or if you wondered through their amazing Drishane house like we did and you see that it has even a big dining room with silver candles and paintings of ancestors in big golden frames and just everything out of the ordinary...you will probably get a lump in your throat, but when… read more you get to know them you will swallow it immediately. They are one by one fantastic people so if you are wondering to go there do so because they don’t come any better then them.

We can even tell you how a day with this family looks like. First Jane will take you on a magical tour through their flowery garden and she will hop around in it and show you what to do wearing one of her summer dresses and with that natural way of hers that effects everything and everyone. If your looking for Tom then later on he will probably be running after the cattle (or after Jane) so you can maybe help him with that too but like the signs around the house say: ‘Beware of the bull’. Hall, their youngest son, will be fetching hobo the always playful dog or he will be swimming or doing something like that and Thomas JR well, we don’t know actually lets say studying 😉And in the evening they all come together for a nice dinner and then they talk about their day and how it was and just laugh with each other and have fun and for us it was a really good feeling to join this incredible family around the table.

We want to specially thank you for all the delicious beef we enjoyed a lot of evenings, the driving lessons from tom in which he so carefully took the time to teach us how to ride with the old rusty tractor, all the freedom you gave us, the magnificent seaside view that flattered us every single day, the generosity and above all the good company.

We also want to take a moment to tell you that it really sticks with us that we got so much appreciation from you with everything that we did even if we did nothing impressive they would still tell us that we did good or like they would say in their words:
‘You’re grand’ or ‘Well done you guys’. Thats why everything that we did, we did with great pleasure and we would happily do it again.

So maybe one time we will knock in front of your door again at 9 o’clock in the morning with our rain boots on asking what bushes there can be cut or what strimming there is to do...

We stayed at Jane & Tom for two weeks in May. It was a really beautiful met. They received us very good and we have been spend a very good time with them.
