    Description

    Hi!

We are Lewis and Tara, a small Austrian-Scottish family living on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Together with our dog Bobbie and our soon to arrive baby, we live in and care for an old Scottish farmhouse that Lewis grew up in, and run a busy children’s nursery/ kindergarten next doors.

Lewis used to be a solicitor (read: lawyer) and Tara a social anthropologist before taking on the nursery, which is a family business. In between we did all manner of things, such as floristry and dog boarding. Tara used to be a workaway au pair for a summer, and had a fantastic time with her host family- so we are keen to try if this would work for us as well.

We offer an en suite double room in our farmhouse for our Aupair. It has access to the house and a separate entrance from the garden side of the house.

We eat mostly vegetarian, Tara loves to cook, and main meals are included if that’s what you’d like.

With Lewis and Tara running the business, we need some light help with our dog, the house and baby during the week, especially in the mornings. Hours would be around 5 hours per day, Mon-Fri from late February/ March 2024 onwards.

You’ll have access to our downstairs living spaces including kitchen, 2 living rooms and conservatory and garden.

The closest bus stop to get into Edinburgh (or Glasgow) is 20mins walk away, or, if you take the bike you can cycle along the union canal for 40/50mins to get into town. You’d be most flexible if you have a car with you, as there are lots of local walks, nature parks, castles, villages etc to explore, but many can also be reached by public transport.

It’s a plus if you speak German, as Tara would love to keep her German going and baby might benefit from having another German speaker in her surroundings.

We’re Austrian and Scottish and have both lived abroad during our school/ university years, and have travelled a little.
We’re still learning from each other, even after seven years of living together, and would love to share our Scottish home and Austrian/ Mediterranean cooking with you.
Tara went to UWC of the Adriatic, in case you heard of it or are even an alumnus/alumna yourself, so we're used to lots of international friends coming and going and would love to learn from you!
Our location is probably the biggest benefit, as we’re close to Fife and from there, the Highlands, but also very close to Edinburgh and Glasgow if you want to explore the cities.
