Description
Hello! Our property is located 45 minutes south of Napier, near Tikokino in Central Hawkes Bay. It is a family owned home that has been in the family for 6 generations! Our homestead, built in 1890, is nestled in a mature woodland garden of 9 hectares (20 acres). We are a lifestyle property with 2 pet Kune Kune piggies and a handful of Angus heifer cows.
The garden has been a family passion for the past 4 generations but does require a lot of help to keep it maintained so we could do with an extra few people around to help out. The philosophy behind the garden is that "although everything has obviously been planted there should be little or no visible sign of the intrusion of man". This is a unique attitude to gardening and we are keen to to share this philosophy and the impact it has on how we maintain the garden with others from around the world.
With 130 hectares of Nationally significant native bush immediately behind the homestead and 9 hectares of garden we sustain a large population of native birds and 2 colonies of the rare native bat.
It is just me (Phyllida) and my husband (Stu) at home with our adult children having moved out but we enjoy catching up with friends regularly and getting involved in events within our local community.
Tasks will depend on what’s happening at the time of year out in the garden and things around the family home.
Accommodation for you - a queen or two king single beds, is provided in the homestead with a separate bathroom and there is wifi throughout the house.
We have both travelled ourselves and our daughter Hannah (25) is presently working in London and travelling around Europe and our son Fred (23) is currently based in Edinburgh so we are keen to reconnect with other cultures and make connections and look forward to meeting you!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
As we have both travelled ourselves we are very receptive to other cultures and would be keen to help our workaway guests experience as much of rural New Zealand life as possible.
Help
Help with our family home and garden,
Help will mainly be in the woodland garden, where there will be a wide variety of tasks and there will also be some easy building maintenance, painting, cleaning and cooking and small projects, working along side us most of the time.Languages

English: FluentThis host offers a language exchange
We have both travelled so we are interested in workaways from all over the world, to share our language and to learn more of yours.Accommodation
Accommodation will be in the Homestead with us and the Workaway guests will have the option of a queen bedroom or a twin king single bedroom with their own bathroom and access to wifi.
What else ...
There is plenty to do and experience in Hawkes Bay, golden beaches, wineries, bike trails, (we can provide heaps of recommendations!) having your own transport would be a big advantage but not a necessity. We would be flexible with how you want to split your week (e.g. possible to use your days off during the week instead of weekend if desired). Any other questions, send us a message!
