Description
We are a family of 4: Marian (41), Tom (45), son Eli (11) and daughter Alex (10). Our cats Samantha and Napoleon and our rabbit Fien are also part of the family.
We live in a small town called Kieldrecht, close to Antwerp, where we work, and Ghent, but still surrounded by nature. In fact, the unique nature reserve Saeftinghe, a tidal marshland connected with the river Scheldt, is just 3 miles away. If you like birdwatching, long walks or bike rides in nature and visiting Flemish and Dutch cities, you've come to the right place.
We live in a large house filled with books and art. Our two children are in secondary school and are very eager to pratice their English and French with you by doing... well, pretty much anything, really. Playing board games, cooking, philosophing, telling silly jokes, reading together, making stuff, going to the museum, finding out about interesting subjects like history, different cultures, ...
Maybe you have special skills in maths or physics? Or you're a miss, misses or mister Fix-it-All, who's into woodwork or electronics and likes small, but crazy building projects? Eli is definitely your man.
Or you have a creative vein? Alex adores painting, writing, reading, making clothes... anything that has to do with arts and crafts. She's also into gymnastics and horseback riding.
The children are at home quite often, so it is easy to plan your time with them and still have lots of free moments. We're very flexibel about that.
O yeah, we are open to all people whatever race, creed, color, gender or sexual preference. Please feel at home in our home.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are very proud of our Belgian culture and heritage. We have a large interest in culture, language, arts, cooking, music, ... Tom has always worked as a language trainer, so he's eager to teach you some Dutch (or even Italian, if you want). Looking for fun things to do, interesting musea, cool walks? We can always point you in the right direction.

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
Our main focus is on language practice for the children by doing activities. If there's any time left: the house really needs a paint job. And sometimes it would be great if you can put your special dish on the table. The help we agree upon, all depends on your skills and what you have to offer.

All of us are eager to learn more about languages. Practising English, French, Italian or (for the adults) Spanish is always great. Tom used to work as a language teacher, both for Dutch and Italian. He specializes in second language learning and is eager to learn you all about it.Accommodation
A room with wifi in our home or a cosy bedroom in the attic, whichever you like. The house is also big enough for you to always have a space of your own: we have a second living room and an extra working space where you can enjoy peace and quiet.
As for food and cooking: we are flexitarians, eating vegetarian one day and meat the next. Our cooking is quite international. We just like good, healthy food with lots of veggies. (But we'll take you to the frituur the next day. That's a solemn promise.) You have food restrictions? No problem. We're happy to adapt our menu. What else ...
We go to Antwerp almost every day and to Leuven twice a week. We're happy to give you a ride. Or lend you our bikes and show you the way.
