We are a local community association, that is non-governmental, non profit-making and non-political. The association is located in southern Morocco, in the rural community town of Tioughza.
Our main goal is to help improve the education and upbringing of children in Tioughza. In order to achieve our objective, we have organised two buildings for use as learning centres. Here we can help children on a daily basis with homework and language skills in French and English.
During the weekends, Friday to Sunday, we organise activities which normally include art projects (painting - sculpturing - acting), playing musical instruments, sporting events, exploring days, group games and open air cinema.
At the moment we are working with a group of more than 60 children and teenagers divided into several small classes; grouped by age, knowledge, skills, and interests.
Our community is run by local volunteers. However, we have also had great experiences with international volunteers coming from different parts of the world. They have motivated us to create this Workaway profile in order to bring more volunteers on board. We have seen how positively our children and teenagers have responded to the volunteers input and greatly improved their language skills and have become more aware of and open minded to the modern multicultural world.
We started our project two years ago and are continuing to grow and develop to meet the needs of the Tioughza community.
Tioughza is a rural community town in Sidi Ifni Province of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region of Morocco. At the time of the 2004 census, the commune had a total population of 12,268 people living in 2168 households.

Volunteering is about giving, but also about receiving. We are super conscious on this point, and we'd like to share our daily routine with you; which includes traditional meals, meeting with locals, shopping at the weekly market, on Thursdays, where traders from all around the region come to sell their products in an authentically traditional way. We will also try to take you for day trips on Sundays to different parts of the region or to explore the mountainous countryside and deserts that surround our village and we often go to the capital, Sidi Ifni, or Legzira; which is a world heritage site and home to Morroco's most unique beach.
You will also learn about our culture, and official languages (Tamazight and Arab).
*Teaching English and / or French.
*Ideas for cultural exchanges.
*Developing art projects in areas such as painting, music, sculpting, theatre, etc.
*Acting as advisor for areas such as ecological farming, community development, and sustainability.
We are looking for proactive volunteers who want to help by sharing their knowledge and skills with our children and the wider community.

Accomodation is on the second floor of our association. There are 3 bedrooms, a kitchen and a toilet. If you decide to eat sometimes in the local restaurants, you would spend ~70 drh per day. If you cook at home, it will be considerably less. However, we have communal meals in the morning and evening. We enjoy to eat and talk with our volunteers, to get to know each other... and through sharing these times with us you can develop a rich understanding of our culture and every day life of the community here in Tioughza. Either way, we are sure that food is not going to be an issue while you are being hosted by us.
There is no shower or hot water yet, we are working on these projects too. However, volunteers can visit the local hammam (~10 drh).

How to get to the rural community of Tioughza:
There are many options to get to Tioughza. Once in Morocco you can ask at the CTM (the offices of the bus company). They can give a full plan for your trip relative to your current location.
Or you can go straight to Tiznit or Agaadir and take a local bus or taxi.
