AVAILABILITY: 29th of July - 18th of August (for the whole period or part of the time)
    + weekends

We are a NGO that runs a small forest kindergarten on a hill in Bratislava, Slovakia. We have been accompanying children aged 3 to 6 for the past 6 years.
We are based in a garden with a little wooden house at the edge of the forest. This is where you will be staying and working.
We are looking forward to welcoming a family with children, a couple, two friends or an individual to help us during the holidays and the weekends, while the kindergarten kids are away.

(My name is Cécile, I am also a workawayer. I have two children attending the forest kindergarten and I will be happy to help you have a nice and smooth stay).

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This helping position is good for people who like nature, hiking in the forest and/or would like to visit Bratislava.
Please note that there will not be a lot of social interactions, as this is a house-sitting situation (being in our little wooden house while we are on holidays).
You can experience simple living, go back to basics, realise the importance of water...
You will get the satisfaction of having done a good deed and having made children happy.

  • Help

    Help

Anyone willing to help is welcome 🙂

Tasks we currently need help with:
    - Painting wood
    - Digging, strimming in the garden
    - Building benches around the fire pit
    - Building a contraption with a trapeze, a ladder... (for the kids' playground)
    - Fixing some stairs
    - Cleaning
    - And plenty more...

Depending on your experience, you will be working on something very simple (painting, digging) or on something more elaborate (assembling planks, for example).
Basically, you can pick what you feel comfortable doing and just work on that.

Only 2 hours of help a day are required, but you will have to buy and cook your own food.
Working hours are from 9:00 until 11:00, giving you enough free time to do your own thing and explore Bratislava.
You can cumulate hours to have days off: if you work for 6 hours on one day, for example, you can then take 2 days off.

You need to be independent. I will only be on site with you during helping hours, but I will also be taking care of my children. The rest of the time, you will be on your own, with some exceptions:
I will take you out for dinner once to a typical Slovak pub (if you are staying for more than 3 days). And if I go somewhere interesting, you will be invited to come along.

Please, leave the whole place as clean and tidy as you found it (or even more).
No smoking, drugs, heavy drinking or loud music are allowed.

(Sorry, we cannot sponsor your visa application).

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will be sleeping in an off-grid wooden cabin.
There is a mezzanine double bed and some small mattresses (kindergarten children size).
There is electricity, a wood stove, a radiator, a fridge, a little gas cooker, a microwave and a kettle.
The compost toilets are outside of the house.
There is no running water, so we will bring you drinking water and you will shower at my place either after work or in the late afternoon, as you prefer.
There is no WiFi, but mobile phones have signal.

Our forest kindergarten is at the top of a very steep hill. There is a supermarket and public transport at the bottom of our street. Parking is available on a parking lot 250 meters from our place. Camper vans can also park there.

There is a black cat, Talpa, who comes to cuddle sometimes. She's not ours, but we like her.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Bratislava city centre is approximately half an hour away by public transport.
You can walk around the old town and see the sights and monuments (the UFO bridge, the main square with the historical town-hall...); try the local specialities such as bryndzove halusky, pirohy, Kofola (the local Coca-Cola) and many more.
You can also easily hike through the woods to Koliba (where the ski slopes are) and to a viewpoint tower.

We will be happy to recommend you places you can visit.
