Description
We are non-profit primary school located in the heart of Slovakia, in the beautiful and historically rich UNESCO mining town of Banská Štiavnica. Our school was founded with the vision of creating a meaningful, inspiring and respectful learning environment for children, teachers and families alike.
Here we combine academic learning with values such as empathy, cooperation, creativity, and critical thinking. Our team of dedicated educators work with children in smaller groups, using interactive and project-based methods, often connecting learning with nature, arts, and real-life topics. English is taught in a practical and immersive way, and we regularly invite volunteers and international guests to enrich the experience of our students.
You'll be joining a vibrant, open-minded and supportive community of teachers, children and parents. We love our town – Banská Štiavnica is a magical place surrounded by forested hills, lakes, and hiking trails. It's full of art, culture, and history, and there's a strong local community spirit. Whether you're into hiking, storytelling, teaching, permaculture or just meaningful conversations over tea, you'll find your place here.
We believe in learning from each other and creating authentic connections. You'll have a chance to support our English lessons, creative workshops, or afterschool clubs – and we’re open to your ideas and talents, too!

You’ll be invited to join morning circles, student projects, workshops, and school trips — all of which offer opportunities to exchange experiences, values, and perspectives. You can use swimming pool, climbing wall at school in your free time.

Help
We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic and open-minded Workawayers who enjoy spending time with children and would like to contribute to a small, creative school environment. You don’t need to be a certified English teacher – what matters most is your willingness to share, learn and connect.
We especially welcome help with:
- Supporting or co-leading English language lessons in week through games, conversations, storytelling or creative activities.
- Supporting or co-leading afternoon workshops in week.
If you have a passion or talent (e.g., music, dance, drama, photography, sport, mindfulness, environmental education), we’d love to include it in our school life!
You’ll work closely with our small and friendly team of teachers and staff. We believe in learning from each other and we’re happy to share our experience in alternative and human-centered education.
We aim to co-create a meaningful and joyful experience – not just for our pupils, but also for you as a guest. Your input matters and you’ll have space to express your ideas and creativity.

Accommodation
You will be staying with other teachers in a private comfortable teacher’s apartment located near our school – cozy and clean with bathroom and kitchen.
For those who are open to deeper cultural immersion, we also offer the unique opportunity to stay with one of our students’ families, where you can experience Slovak hospitality and daily life up close.
During the weekdays, you’ll enjoy three healthy meals in our school canteen, which always includes a homemade soups, a nutritious main meals plus fruits and vegetables.
