My girlfriend and I are running a cosy surf hostel for backpackers for 7 years now. We are both used to travelling around the globe and decided to settle in the coastal city of Anglet nearby Biarritz, in the French Basque Country, to offer accommodation for travellers.

We’re looking for a third member in the team to back us up for 1 month (May, ideally from the 26th of April). She/he would be 100% part of the team and not only dedicated to specific tasks but really versatile and fully involved in both the running and life of the hostel.

Both fond of backpacking and meeting people from all over the world, my girlfriend (Fanny) and I (Clément) opened this House 7 years ago.

We set up this small family hostel with 15 beds in a traditional Basque house. Our guests often describe it as a “home away from home”.

From the very beginning, we’ve done our best to make our guests feel at home while making their stay on the Basque coast memorable. Indeed, we frequently organize events inside and outside the hostel such as barbecue, beach volley ball, petanque, going out to concerts, to share a drink… In the same time, we are very careful to keep everything super clean and tidy.

We’re looking for someone to take care of the ‘operational’ tasks: helping us with the daily cleaning, making the beds, doing the laundries and setting up the breakfast. You must be organized and like to keep things clean.

In the same time, we are not just looking for a 'cleaner' lady/guy, but someone who is enthusiastic and smiley, who likes to socialize with guests, organize/be part of all kinds of events inside and outside, but also likes to party.

As we still have other small things to manage daily, we are looking for someone who is proactive, who likes to take action instead of waiting for instructions.

As you will be working in an international environment (70% of our guests are foreigners), we are looking for someone who is fluent in English and has a good level of French.

Although the position is paid as a part-time job, we are looking for a friendly relationship rather than a strict employer/employee relationship.

So, if you fit this description, let's get in touch 😊!

Note: an employment contract will be signed between the workawayer and the hostel and the work will be paid according to the minimum wage requirements in France. Therefore, only workawayers with a valid European passport will be accepted for this position.

You will sleep on a convertible sofa which is in the room where we check in guests until 7pm. You will therefore have to put the bed in sofa position every day to keep the room tidy (typically from 8.30am to 7.30pm). The rest of the time, the place is yours ;-)

    What we are offering:
Free accommodation including breakfast, laundry and use of a bike in exchange of 25 hours of help per day.

    What we are expecting:
Someone not shy but talkative, who speaks a good level of French and is fluent in English and who likes connecting with the guests and help them organise their stay.
We are quite flexible and just need to organise between the 3 of us to ensure that there is always someone at the hostel to welcome guests and assist them during their stay.
