    Description

    Hi!
I'm Noora and I'm 22 years old. I live with my boyfriend (23) on an old farm with a 100 year old house in Southern Ostrobothnia.
I tried workaway a few years ago myself and fell in love with the consept and I knew I wanted to become a host once I would find my own home. And here I am now, living here since autumn 2022 and I've met a lot of amazing workawayers!
(Feel free to ask if you want to know more about the projects during the time you are interested to come)

I'm starting my own little "hobby farm" (1 hectare) with currently 3 icelandic horses aged 28,26, and 12. So if you have previous riding experience we could go riding and exploring!
-this is a non profit farm!

    I have two bunnies too!
I will be getting sheep, and chicken at some point so there might be some projects related to that in the future.
During the week I might need some extra hands to help me and keep me company as i’m mostly alone here.

We also have dogs. I have a roughcollie that stays pretty much allways here and our other dog (gsd mix) stays mostly at my parents house but might come and stay for a while every now and then! My boyfriends has two hunting dogs that live mostly outside in the cage or the stable.

The entire place is a "work in progress" that i'm slowly trying to make into my dream Ranch!
I have a big dream to make this place something that not just i can enjoy but also other people! So if you want to be a part of that dream becoming a reality and experiencing it, welcome!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I speak both Finnish and Swedish fluently and i’m interested in the local history and culture.

You will hopefully learn about old log houses (and why i love them!) some diy projects, animal care if youre interested, how to enjoy time on the countryside (i like to stay at home as much as possible) and overall lots of outdoor stuff!

i´m also studying leatherworking/tack making so if you're interested I could teach you some basics!

  • Help

    Help

Here are some things i might be needing a helping hand with:
-basic daily chores/cleaning around the house and yard
    -clearing out bushes
    -bring in firewood/stack firewood
    -plowing snow or raking leaves
    -gardening
-I do most of the chores myself but you are more than welcome to join and help me!

Overall a very chill place to be and a lot of free time! days off vary a bit depending on when I have days off from work and have more time to work on projects with you.
The average "hours" during a day are probably 1-3h some days might be 5h and some 30min depending on the weather and what we feel like doing. I'm trying to arrange a lot of variety in the projects we might be working on.
some of the simple projects are something you might be helping on alone but we are of course going to be working together on more complicated/bigger tasks.
I'm mostly searching for 2-3 week stays at a time to give myself some alone time in between.
If you wan't to know more about what projects will be happening during the time of your stay, just ask and i'll tell you more!
i also expect you to clean up after yourself and keep your room clean!
(if you can't lift "heavy" stuff such as water buckets or firewood this might not be the best place for you)

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

have space for 1 workawayer and you will be sleeping in the guestroom. The guestroom floor is not insulated so that's why it's not in use during the coldest winter months (January-February)
During winter my house is quite cold and drafty, so i recommend warm clothing to wear inside too! (keep in mind that winter is from November to April here!)
I’m providing the basic foods (breakfast, lunch, dinner, evening snack)! But you have to buy your own snacks (candies and such) and stuff you want for yourself.
Unfortunately i can't accommodate Vegans or others with dietary restrictions (unless you buy your own food then it's okay and we can arrange work hours accordingly!). Lactose intolerant is okay as long as you are okay with mostly drinking raw milk straight from the bulk tank.
And i always prefer locally produced food!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

During summertime there is a huge amusement park, Powerpark (northernmost amusement park in the entire world) nearby and a few museums too. My family has a summercottage by the ocean.
During winter there aren't as many activities but you might see some northern lights and hopefully enjoy some snow!
I live "in the middle of nowhere" so on a walking distance there is pretty much nothing, but within a 10-15min drive there is a little town with shops and other activities.
I enjoy my time here at home and allways seem to find something fun to do if i'm bored.
I have some board games and a playstation and we can ofcourse watch movies in the evening! I love to knit and sew too!
(There is basically no public transportation over here)
I work mostly at my neighbours dairy farm (2-3h in the morning and 2-3h in the evening so i do come home in between)
otherwise I´m working from home (full time business owner)
So during the day when i'm at home we usually go outside, especially during winter as those are the only light hours of the day! And during summer we have a lot of light hours, allmost 24h!

Calm quiet dogs are possibly welcome as long as they do not have any "aggression issues" such as food agression or any other dominant behavior. (my other dog is a bit unsure due to a dog attacking him as a puppy) and my dog is unneutered so female dogs in the house are not an option.
