  Description

  Hello! We are a family of four: my husband, myself, my 20-year-old daughter, and my 14-year-old son. We're looking for an au pair because I'll be away for a week in September (from September 6th to 13th) for a refresher course.
  I'm a support teacher at a middle school, and I'm on temporary contracts. My husband is a craftsman and runs a small gardening business with another partner. My daughter is studying DAMS at the University of Bologna, and my son will start his first year of high school (specifically, the ITI) in September.
  We have two cats who also spend time outdoors.
  Our home is an apartment in a six-unit building about 900 meters from Lucca's historic center.
  Lucca isn't a particularly large city, but it's very quaint and charming. It offers a variety of entertainment options: cinema, exhibitions, museums, and international events like the Lucca Summer Festival in July and Lucca Comics & Games in November. Lucca is close to the sea, just a half-hour drive away. Famous nearby cities include Pisa, Florence, and Siena, all easily accessible by public transport. The mountains are also nearby, offering beautiful nature hikes. Our city also offers a lovely walk along the sixteenth-century city walls or through our River Park, which I particularly love!

  Ciao! Siamo una famiglia di 4 persone, io, mio marito, mia figlia di 20 anni e mio figlio di 14 anni. Cerchiamo un ragazzo alla pari perchè io a settembre mi devo assentare una settimana (dal 6 al 13 settembre) per un corso di aggiornamento.
  Io sono insegnante di sostegno alla Scuola Secondaria di primo grado, e sono precaria. Mio marito è artigiano, ha una piccola ditta di giardinaggio insieme ad un altro socio. Mia figlia studia il DAMS all'università di Bologna e mio figlio inizierà a settembre il primo anno di Scuola Secondaria di secondo grado (le superiori, nello specifico l'ITI).
  Abbiamo due gatti che stanno anche all'aperto.
  La nostra casa è un appartamento all'interno di un condominio di sei unità abitative a circa 900 metri dal centro storico di Lucca.
  Lucca è una città non tanto grande ma molto caratteristica e carina. Offre varie opportunità di svago: cinema, mostre, musei, eventi internazionali come Lucca Summer Festival a Luglio e Lucca Comics&Games a Novembre. Vicino a Lucca c'è il mare, raggiungibile in una mezz'ora di auto. Le città famose vicine sono Pisa, Firenze, Siena tutte facilmente raggiungibili con i mezzi pubblici. Vicino ci sono anche le montagne per delle belle escursioni nella natura. Inoltre la nostra città offre una bella passeggiata sulle mura cinquecentesche oppure sul nostro Parco Fluviale che io amo particolarmente!

  Social activities where Workaway volunteers can connect include the local youth club, which is close to our home. There's also a library in town that offers youth exchange opportunities. There are playrooms where kids gather to play board games (I need to find out more about them, especially so my son can attend them).
  We're a family that's interested and open to dialogue. In the past, we've hosted people who came to Lucca for an Italian course, and we're still in touch with some of them!
  From meeting the Workaway volunteer, we hope to spark a cultural exchange about the customs and lifestyles of other parts of the world!

  Le attività sociali in cui i volontari di Workaway possono entrare in contatto sono l'Oratorio del nostro quartiere che è vicino casa nostra, in città c'è la biblioteca che offre occasioni di scambio tra i giovani. Esistono delle ludoteche in cui i ragazzi si trovano per giocare con i giochi da tavolo (devo informarmi meglio anche per farli frequentare da mio figlio).
  Noi siamo una famiglia interessata e disponibile al dialogo. In passato abbiamo ospitato persone che venivano a Lucca a frequentare un corso d'italiano e con alcuni siamo ancora in contatto!
  Dall'incontro con il ragazzo workaway speriamo di avere uno scambio culturale che riguarda gli usi e il modo di vivere in altre parti del mondo!

  Help

  The person we host should help primarily with household chores, as my husband comes home very tired from work in the evenings, and it would be helpful to involve my son in helping prepare dinner. He knows how to cook and enjoys it, but like any boy his age, he tends to shirk household chores. The important thing would be to involve him in lighthearted, playful activities around the house, and to avoid excessive cell phone use.
  There are playgrounds near our house where my son often meets with friends.
  I'll be home during the first week of September and can share our routines.

  La persona che ospiteremo dovrebbe aiutare soprattutto nella vita in casa, perchè mio marito torna molto stanco la sera da lavoro e sarebbe utile coinvolgere mio figlio ad aiutare a preparare la cena. Lui sa cucinare e gli piace ma come ogni ragazzo della sua età tende a svicolare gli impegni domestici, invece la cosa importante sarebbe proprio riuscire a coinvolgerlo con leggerezza e gioco nelle cose da fare in casa, e nello stare lontano dall'uso eccessivo del cellulare.
  Vicino a casa nostra ci sono dei parchi gioco dove spesso mio figlio incontra gli amici.
  La prima settimana di settembre ci sono anch'io in casa e posso mostrare le nostre abitudini.

  Siamo in quattro in famiglia. Io parlo l'inglese non bene, mio marito meglio, nostro figlio insomma, segue molti video in lingua inglese. Mia figlia che studia a Bologna parla meglio di noi inglese però non so se in quel periodo sarà a casa nostra.

  Accommodation

  The au pair will be staying in a single room, with access to a bathroom for the use of the au pair and her child.
  I usually do enough food shopping to last a week.
  For lunch, we often cook just pasta with various sauces, and in the evening, we try to eat protein. For both lunch and dinner, I always try to include vegetables. However, for dinner, there's often pasta, rice, or spelt as a first course for those who want it. And for lunch, I often make eggs, sausage, or something else as a second course.

  La sistemazione sarà in una camera singola, da cui si accede a un bagno che sarà ad uso dell' au pair e del figlio.
  Di solito io faccio una spesa di alimenti che possa durare una settimana.
  A pranzo spesso cuciniamo solo una pasta asciutta con condimenti vari e la sera cerchiamo di mangiare le proteine. Sia a pranzo che a cena cerco sempre di accompagnare il pasto con le verdure. Comunque spesso anche a cena per chi vuole c'è pasta o riso o farro come primo piatto. E a pranzo spesso faccio le uova o i wurstel o qc altro come secondo.

  During your stay here, there are several leisure activities to enjoy, as I mentioned earlier: a stroll along the city walls, in the River Park, in Lucca's historic center, or by taking public transportation (train or bus) to the beach, or to visit Pisa, Florence, or Carrara. The area also offers beautiful bike rides.

  Durante il tuo soggiorno qui ci sono diverse attività di svago da fare come accennavo prima: una passeggiata sulle mura, al Parco Fluviale, nel Centro Storico di Lucca, oppure prendendo un mezzo pubblico (treno o bus) andare al mare, o a visitare Pisa, Firenze o Carrara. Si possono fare delle belle passeggiate in bicicletta in zona.
