Description
We are a spiritual family of four with a dog, cats and chickens, ducks, and doves ! We live at the end of a rough track in a wooden house on a two hectare plot in a beautiful valley about 15 minutes walk from the local village for cafes, internet and local bus services and 20 minutes from Lagos, Western Algarve and beaches. There is only intermittent mobile phone signal.
We are in 'the nature' here !

We are looking for volunteers with some carpentry experience and a love of gardening! We would like help on the land, strimming, rotavating and light land clearing, but our major project is to cultivate more of the land so we can become self sufficient. An interest in cooking with what is available would be good and help with the 'school runs' so a driving licence is essential!

There are buses from the village to Lagos where ther are beaches, restaurants bars etc and the town is quite lively. Otherwise, the local village has bars with TV and pool table, eateries, post office, ATM, and two local shops.

There’s two types of hosts on Workaway: the ones that just teach you about the activities that you are there to do and the ones that share their house, their meals, their way of life and how they see the world, their ideas and laughs... and you learn so much more than just the work that you were there to do! Chris, Karen, Grace and Bliss do not… read more fit into either of these categories because they are so much more... They really open their hearts when they receive you, once you arrive you will simply feel at home, they take care of you and they really care about you and not just about the work you are there to do.
We initially went there to stay one week, but we could not leave after only one week, we asked to stay one more and they were more than happy to let us stay longer. They live with awesome neighbours, animals such as funny ducks and chickens which help in the garden and as a bonus produce delicious eggs; a very special and sweet dog called shanty, that is addicted to balls and full of energy and love, (be prepared to throw her ball over and over again!); and a cat that just had babies when we were there which were absolutely adorable! Chris and Karen were lovely, kind and patient and even invited us to join their family dinners every evening. I think we can both say that dinner was one of our favourite parts of the day, not only because of the delicious food but because of the great conversations we had about their experiences, their knowledge, their path into spirituality and some really funny conversations. Chris and Karen both work at a fasting centre as yoga teachers in the near by area. They both have lots of knowledge in yoga, spirituality, Buddhist philosophy and practice, dowsing, fasting/ juicing and we even got to take part in a yoga class run by Karin on Thursday and in a ceremony run by Chris at the fasting center, truly amazing! They have an amazing yurt on their property which we took advantage of to meditate there in the morning.
About the work, it was not too difficult, and they are very flexible, we discussed with them to decide together the tasks that needed priority, what we preferred to do first, etc. We were there to help with general maintenance of the land, taking care of the vegetable garden, feeding the animals and cooking which was an absolute pleasure.
We stayed in an amazing campervan! It was super clean and organised, full of food, and with a sweet note on top of the table when we arrived. They have loads of books which they are more then happy for you to borrow. We already miss you all! Thank you so much for everything, we know we already said it, but we really appreciated our time with you guys and we don’t think we are able to show, just with words, how glad we are for ended up in your place among a thousand hosts in Portugal.
