Description
The Cottage is a two acre garden near the shore of Clew Bay on the wild Atlantic coast of Ireland. The garden produces fruit, vegetables and flowers. It is also occasionally open to the public. The two cottages on the land are around 200 years old. I have no animals at present apart from Daisy the Jack Russell terrorist. Westport, the nearest town, is a busy community of 5000 people with a strong tourist industry, many pubs and restaurants and lots of traditional music. Many outdoor activities are available: wild swimming, hiking, sailing, cycling etc. The nearby mountains and beaches are beautiful. I am looking for help with all the tasks of a large garden which I am in the process re-designing; also with the renovation of a small 7 acre farm which lies 7 miles away and has become overgrown.

Help with Eco ProjectsGardeningFarmstay helpUN sustainability goals this host is trying to achieve
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You could learn about the processes and techniques of self-sufficiency and gardening in Ireland's climate; also music - I play traditional Irish music, and love to share tunes and songs, at home or in the pub.
Help
Outdoor physical work, some of it hard e.g. clearing scrub and brambles from farmland. Also planting, digging, pruning and some construction such as landscaping and dry stone walling

Accommodation
Bedroom in my house, for a couple or a single traveller, with its own bathroom. Kitchen and living room shared with me. You will be expected to take a share of the cooking and cleaning up after meals. I will provide the groceries.
What else ...
The daily schedule is flexible depending on preference and weather. If it's raining I might ask you to help with painting the inside of the house! You will have plenty of time to explore the area. I have bicycles in the shed to be borrowed, and longer trips to mountains or beaches can be organised occasionally. Local points of interest include Croagh Patrick (Ireland's holy mountain), Westport House (18th century stately home), The National Museum of Country Life in Turlough, the Westport to Achill Greenway, traditional music sessions, Gaelic games and more
