Description
I am a grateful life learner, mother of 4 amazing grown-up children, grandmother of 6 awesome grandkids, social anthropologist, gardener, journalist, and artist. Worked as an independent consultant for rural community projects in many different assignments since 1976. Watercolor teacher in my studio for 14 years. University instructor at Caltech, Art Center, and CalPoly SLO, in California for 4 years. Now semi-retired, mostly conducting a personal agro ecology-eco lifestyle touristic project in beautiful Lake Atitlán. I am actively involve in inmersion learning as a tool to spread sustainable living models. Also an avid reader, interested in integrative medicine, and ancient nutrition.
I'm in my 70s and running 4 incredible eco-cabins right on the Lake in San Marcos Guatemala. I'm looking for some passionate ecological nature loving souls to help me run my guesthouse (check in guests, clean rooms, answer messages, set up sauna for guests, help with gardening, feed the chickens and worms or even some light maintenance n or marketing or organization help!)
You will have your own room (fits 2 people) with a kitchen, bathroom and shower but since this is an ecological cabin, I need people who are happy without a fridge and the basic western comforts as we work together to reduce waste and pollutants. 1 meal a day will be served in your room in exchange for 4 hours a day of work. All meals are gluten free and mostly picked from my garden! There is a private kitchen for guests to use to prepare all other meals!
I'm perfectly happy for people to pop in and head out for a few days on a hike etc but I would like someone to stay for a while so that I can train them and they can fully immerse in the peaceful life here. On your days off you can swim off our private dock, take a boat to the other areas of the lake, walk around the towns and enjoy the serenity of the birds, mountains and waves. This part of Guatemala is known for its beauty and volcanic landscape as well as bird watching and sky gazing!
It is truly peace on earth here, I am happy to share my home with anyone looking for a great experience nestled in the mountains and I look forward to the help of some younger minds!Types of help and learning opportunities

The room provided is not listed as guest accommodation as its a small workers room but I lived in it for a few years and loved the space! Room includes a stove and all basic cooking needs other than a fridge, beds for 2 people, compost toilet that runs of woodchips, solar shower only hot in day hours, pantry storage, sink, mountain & lake view but it is small and basic. It is perfect for sleeping and rest time but I hope you will spend more time outside and by the water than in the room!
I will supply 1 meal a day fresh from my garden, there is a private kitchen for guests to use to prepare all other meals!A little more information
