Description
Hi!
We’re a friendly family on an 8-acre wilderness micro-ranch in Austin Texas. Over the years we’ve used our space for gardens, music nights, potlucks, and workshops. Now we’re looking for folks to help us bring the space back to life.
Small projects might include rototilling the garden, clearing trails, building a new mini horse fence, helping construct a cabin or greenhouse, and feeding the rabbits, chickens, and mini horses. Experience and skills with tools and outdoor work is helpful! We also need folks who can not only work with us but work independently.
We enjoy meeting people from all over!
Please note: we can only confirm volunteer opportunities about 2 weeks out so we operate just a bit more on a last-minute basis. If you're trying to plan a month or two ahead of time we won't be able to set anything up but if you're just a couple of weeks out there's a good chance we'll be in town and can work something out!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The best way to get a rich, cultural experience is to borrow a couple of our bikes and spend the day in Austin using the bike trails along the lake and sample all the districts in the heart of the city.
This would take you to a huge variety of international food courts, little eateries and coffee shops as well the Mex Am Cultural Center, The French Legation, African Am Cultural Center, LBJ Library, Blanton Art Museum on the UT campus, Bob Bullock History Museum, Texas State Capitol and not to forget the bats on Congress bridge!Help
Volunteers will help with building projects ie: cabin improvements, stucco, bathroom addition, barn floor installation. In addition, volunteers will clear trails, mend fences, mow lawns, leaf blow, jet spray, trim trees, feed the animals, and general light maintenance.
The ideal situation is a few days up to a week. Couples and friends encouraged. RV's okay.
We like to work in the morning for 3-4 hours. After that, you can join us for brunch and take the day off to do whatever you like in Austin.Languages spoken

Accommodation
You will have your own space in the cabin located in the woods near the house with electric, wi-fi but no plumbing. There's a full bath and shower in the garage at the house and a gas stove / sink in the barn that you can use The property has lots of outdoor space including trails, barn, outdoor stage, patios, fire pit.
We provide a hearty breakfast each day. (Meals other than breakfast will be on your own unless otherwise coordinated.)
Volunteers will need their own transportation to get in and around Austin. There are grocery stores nearby and a really nice laundry facility. What else ...
Austin has a great many things to offer - great parks, hike and bike trails, a plethora of music venues, good eats at local restaurants, artistic, hip vibe scene. We can loan you bikes anytime so you can get around town easily.
Best to have your own car or vehicle to get into town. When in town, bus routes, bikes, scooters, rideshare available.
On occasion we like to host potlucks, events, workshops, music concerts and invite friends and others in the Austin community who are interested in gathering to exchange ideas and stories.A little more information

We have high speed wireless and a t-mobile hot spot for areas away from the house.
Space for parking camper vans
We've had campers before and ran an electric cord and a garden hose for cold water.
Can possibly accept pets
A well behaved dog might be okay. We have farm animals (chickens free range) mini horses a goat and a golden doodle (male not fixed) so dogs would need to be okay around our pets.
