    Description

We are passionate about growing, preserving, cooking, eating!!! delicious food and regard it as one of the most important ways to maintain one's integrity in the world. We grow 99% most of the fresh produce needed to feed our family, volunteers and yoga retreat centre located on Clare Island, off the Mayo coast of Ireland throughout the year on just a 1/4 of an acre of cultivatable land. in addition to the huge varieties of vegetables and fruit grown in our gardens and polytunnels, we also make yoghurt and various cheeses from a small flock of milking sheep which we milk by hand. Most of the rest of the 240 acre farm is upland mountain and bog which is grazed sustainably by our herd of 8 horses and a flock of moun spring (starting from the 1st of February) tain sheep. Its western edge is defined by dramatic cliffs populated by large colonies of seabirds. There's also a 10 acre native woodland. We also run a small organic, vegetarian cafe during the summer months.

We are looking for people with organic gardening or cooking experience to help us next year from March (possibly end of February). Only people with a proven interest in organic food production/self sufficiency/ sustainable living need apply. Furthermore, only people who can commit to at least a month will be considered, so please don't write if you can only come for two weeks. We would also welcome people with some catering experience to help us during the summer with our little vegetarian cafe.
An active interest in yoga or meditation would be a bonus as this is an important part of life at the farm, and there are opportunities to take part in some of the classes when courses are running.

In exchange for about 30 hours work / week, a lot of it outdoors, with one or two days off / week, we offer accommodation (in a caravan in the summer, and in one of the guesthouses off season), delicious, organic and strictly vegetarian food and occasional yoga instruction. It's possible to learn many skills here, from vegetarian cooking to gardening, building and even milking sheep (if you stay long enough). Horse riding is possible for experienced riders who have their own insurance, but not for beginners.
Please note that food at our farm is strictly vegetarian and that we do not accept smokers.

Please write giving details of your relevant experience and the dates you would be available.
If you are looking for a cheap holiday, try somewhere else.
    Non smokers only.
