We’re Graham and Jania and we’re starting out on our Workaway journey having already built very strong profiles on other platforms such as TrustedHouseSitters (pet and home sitting) and Airbnb where we have a beautiful apartment and one of the highest rated in Spain (~40 5* reviews). Our experience in both hospitality and travel, as well as adventuring by crewing and sailing a 60ft monohull for 3-4 months, working and living across Italy, Spain, Portugal, UK, Canada and Brazil, means we have much international love, and now we want to give back with more volunteering and skill sharing.

Between us we speak high level Spanish, English and Portuguese (and frequently all at the same time in the same sentence!) and are keen to learn more and share our own tips. Our primary goal though is to learn to build and create sustainable living and working the land - so projects that include manual labouring especially around home construction, carpentry, interior decoration, utility skills like electrics, mechanics and plumbing, farming land and livestock, and nature preservation and volunteering, are our priorities, although we’re also just keen to meet new cultures and lend a hand. We ultimately want to build our own project and would love to see successful workdays up close so we can share all the best strategies when it comes to be our turn to build a home.

Our experience: Jania started this profile in 2024, having already worked in Italy as co-host and manager of an Italian ancient roman castle/house Airbnb for 6 months, and in a Napolese pizza restaurant for 3 months in Roma, and immediately was invited to Portugal which led to her transforming the home of a lovely family almost single-handedly caring for the horses, working every day on garden improvement, planting, clearing weeds and trees, landscaping and painting and decorating the entire house building, and stables. Jania is extremely highly motivated with physical labour and is inspired by YouTube channels of old Nonna’s serving their communities with huge pies cooked in the ground - she’s a trained cook and kitchen assistant and is never afraid to learn a new special dietary idea - we recently just completed a season together on ketogenic diet - and she took care of us both with endless experimenting to recreate favourite confectionary with sugar-free alternatives! We absolutely love Indian, Mexican and Italian cooking especially and have a few favourite Spanish dishes in our repertoire too.

Graham started our CrewSeekers (Sailing 1 review + 1 not on platform - 5*) and TrustedHouseSitters (Petsitting - 15 reviews 5*) accounts since 2022, and the Airbnb (37 5*) same year, slowly building us deep reputation and experience taking care of the needs of others, so we can more easily secure more opportunities in future. It has all been a deeply valuable learning experience to sacrifice a lot of comfort for others, but we’ve always given it 110% which shows in our ratings. And we hope to do the same with Workaway next whilst we travel around Brazil in a camper van for several months :D We’d love to meet people, build a network of our own (Jania is originally from Sao Paolo region) and offer our help to any project we can turn our hands to, which is pretty much everything! Graham owns three properties and managed all of them as a hands on landlord without agents, has built a pizza oven and remodelled the patio, has pipe shelves, and many other DIY tasks and decorating.

We both look to ideally work half days at least but are pretty flexible on this, in return for room and board! On this particular trip we’re probably going to favour shorter stays of 1-4 weeks to keep moving but are open to longer if it’s a really great opportunity. Really we just want to feel we spent most of this trip learning and helping others, and making new friends with positive energy, like our own. We love to get to know people :D

We can’t wait to talk to you and start this new adventure. Let us know if you want to/ like to be promoted also as we are considering taking our journey online this time, and Graham’s background is a creative director and entrepeneur, in which I did numerous social media campaigns, content creation and animation in particular for corporate clients. We haven’t done our own channel before yet, and are by no means influencers, but we have often been told we should do so on our travels and have gathered enormous amounts of content over the years already, and as it’s quite unconventional and potentially inspiring lifestyle and I admit I would like to inspire my younger brother, and younger generation to volunteer in these hard economic times to build reputation.
