Hola! Me llamo Josie: lifelong learner & outdoorswoman. Born & raised in a small lake community in Iowa USA, raised more yet through travel. My friends consider me a warm, creative person with an open mind.
I live nomadically and have grown to love outdoor seasonal guiding. This lifestyle allows me to commune with nature, move my body, and accomplish hard physical labor. Each day requires improvisation, and the work trains me to adapt and innovate.
Growing up in a tourism community, I took my first job at age 14 and have worked in restaurants/customer service/the outdoors since. The American Midwest is known for its kind culture and strong work ethic - I love my home and the small community that raised me.
These days, I operate biking/hiking tours across the US (Maine, Alaska, New Mexico) from April - November. This year, I will spend my time off in Peru from January - April 2025 for Spanish and cultural immersion. The Andes, music, and close cultural relationship with land are things I fell in love with in Chile ages ago and are things that call me back again now. This time, I hope to speak Spanish the whole time.

I love being outside, reading, studying. One day, I hope to build a small home & sanctuary. My dream is to experience thoughtful friendship in a second language.

Was könntest du arbeiten?
People and teaching are my passions. I regularly lead groups of 20 people on trails and roads. Not afraid to get my hands dirty. I can create simple hand-drawn maps and can share camping skills. I enjoy bike-packing. I am trained as a bike mechanic and would be happy to share this knowledge.
Can offer dance classes: spent 6 years teaching classes at all age levels (ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary styles). Can lead stretching and yoga sessions.
Professionally trained to host dinner parties, prepare food, and speak publicly. Will gladly collaborate in the kitchen.
Can “read water” and navigate river rapids in a raft!
While I’ve enjoyed film photography in the past, I’m traveling with my camera for the first time in years. I plan to snap photographs during travels to retrain my eye.
Other skills: Simple home repairs and painting. Basic weeding/planting. Simple bob-style haircuts. Cooking. Making music.
