I spent one month with Harriet and David, and I can honestly say it was one of the most joyful months of my life. The house is spacious and comfortable, and I had my own private space (bedroom, bathroom, and even a small living room). The nature around is just unreal! I went on many hikes, especially with my lovely Harry 🐶. The mission was pretty simple: cleaning up the horse manure 6 days a week. And you know what? I actually liked it a lot! It felt like my daily meditation and even a bit of sport 😁. It usually took me between 45 minutes and an hour and a half when I took my time. That left me plenty of time to rest, hike, and even work as a digital nomad (the Wi-Fi isn’t very fast and I had to find the best spot to connect, but it worked). On my days off, I went to Edinburgh and had an amazing time there. It was sunny almost every day in April (maybe I just got lucky 😂). I had dinner with David and Harriet almost every day, and I had so much fun with them. They are so kind and generous. I really hope to go back again soon 🙏🏻. Just a heads-up: the place is really isolated — perfect if you love nature and quiet evenings, but probably not the best fit if you want to go out and socialize every day 😅.

Verena has spent the last 10 months with us, first arriving as a volunteer and later transitioning into our main management/receptionist role. She came with an open heart and mind, a willingness to learn and grow, and treated everyone around her with warmth and respect. As a housekeeping volunteer, she was efficient, hardworking and continuously went above and beyond to make sure tasks were done, guests were comfortable, and the hostel remained in good shape. She was always willing to jump in when we were a bit understaffed and was a huge help in training new volunteers that had arrived after her. As the role of manager/receptionist, she has done an amazing job facilitating various staff roles and overseeing the daily operations of our business (which is not for the faint of heart, as this task requires heaps of determination and love). Alice Springs is a unique place, different than anywhere else in Australia. You either come here and leave after a short while, or it sucks you in and you embrace it. We were happy to see Verena do the later and help us nurture the energy that keeps the property curious. We are incredibly sad that she is moving on after so long. She will be deeply missed by our community here and is welcome back with open arms at any time. We would recommend her to any future host; she is a delight to have around.

I stayed about a week with the family, would have been happy to stay longer. Smyth David and the kids (and dogs, cats, lambs...) were welcoming form day one and made me feel at home. During my time here I helped around the house, fed the lambs, helped Harry with 3D printing stuff (while learning myself), fed the lambs, weeded a bunch ... oh and did I mention the lambs. Smyth's constabt learning drive and multiple interests and David's quiet calmness give the house it's great vibe, and the kids are all fascinating and interesting people. Thank you so much for letting me into your home and making me feel welcome.

I spent a wonderful week at Claire’s beautiful place. Although Claire is very busy, she always made an effort to spend time together and get to know me. The cabin I stayed in is right by the lake, offering stunning views. In my free time, I could always take the kayaks out and explore the lake. Her two horses are gentle, beautiful souls, and it was such a joy to spend time with them. You should enjoy some alone time and feel comfortable being on your own if you want to come here. Claire is a very open and heart warm person, who always has an ear for other people around her.

I had an unbelievably wonderful time staying in Miaoli with Carrie! I did not expect to have so much fun teaching English, but the kids were so friendly and cute. Carrie was really easy to communicate with, and she used to be a tour guide so she gave me a lot of really great suggestions for activities to do and places to go. I felt really welcomed and cared for when I stayed with her, and if I decide to do another working holiday in Taiwan I would love to come back to this teaching studio. I would not have considered visiting Houlong if not for this workaway opportunity, but it was a really nice place to stay - there's lots of beautiful places in Miaoli county that you can visit fairly easily, and all of the people in Houlong are very friendly and welcoming (although a lot of the people in Houlong don't speak English, but if you know a little bit of Chinese they will be very excited to talk to you). I also had a really great time going to Houlong Presbyterian Church - if you are religious I recommend checking it out!

I spent two weeks volunteering at Putra’s eco lodge, and it was one of the most wholesome, grounding experiences of my travels. From the very first day, Putra and his family welcomed me not just as a volunteer, but as one of their own. The care, kindness, and openness they showed made me feel at home immediately. My main contribution was capturing photos, videos, and providing some writing for their website. Putra’s team is such also such a joy to be around: they treat each other like family, always teasing, laughing, and supporting one another, work feels like play! The lodge itself is a sanctuary. Life slows down here surrounded by the jungle, time genuinely slips away because their lifestyle and way of approaching life feels so present, peaceful, lighthearted and joyful. This volunteering experience was healing, inspiring, and deeply human. I’ll definitely be back to visit, and to support Putra and his family however I can hehe

Can't recommend staying with mark enough, from the morning sunrise walks through dense Aussie bush to eating the best home cooked food on the patio with the view down the valley, you'll get a proper sense of rural life in Australia. Marks property offers alot of learning about grounds keeping, maintaining healthy gardens by managing different plants and how to organise projects. Couldn't have asked for better company with Mark, Linda, Jeremy and Rocco to have a chin wag with throughout the day and in the evening. And if you practice meditation or yoga the country air and peaceful surroundings make it perfect. If you want a proper aussie experience marks is my first recommendation!

Thank you so much for everything, Mint!! My stay was only for one week, but it felt like so much more because of the wonderful environment you've created. The other volunteers and you were so incredibly welcoming, funny, and kind. It didn't take long for all of you, including the pretty cats, to feel like a real family to me. I have wonderful memories of our shared laughter and conversations. The surrounding restaurants where I could eat for free were consistently delicious, offering a great taste of the local food. Plus, the accommodation was clean and comfortable. Thanks to all of this, I was able to spend truly fulfilling and unforgettable days!!!

Boy, I had a lot of fun with Céline and Kodo staying here. They brought their little dog Esmerelda who was sweet and no trouble at all. Both of them took my four dogs on many excursions and the dogs got quite attached to them. We had so many laughs and enjoyed our dinners and after dinner talks. We got to know each other pretty well. I think both Céline and Kodo are eager to help with extra chores when asked, and are fun to have around. They even made a very special gift for me of a hand painted oracle deck with inspirational messages. Very special! I recommend them to other Workaway hosts. Thank you for passing through and I wish you both a superb future!

Roberto! We wanted to send a huge thank you for your incredible work as an English at our school! Your hard work and positive energy in the classroom truly made a difference. The students absolutely loved your lessons, and your enthusiasm was contagious! Plus, the amazing photos and videos you took of the students in action are a real treasure. They capture all the fun and learning perfectly, and we're so grateful to have them. Thank you again for sharing your time and talents with us. We hope to see you again soon!

It’s not easy to welcome a stranger into your home, especially when they’ll be spending time with your children. At first, I was worried it might not be a good fit, but after four weeks I left with complete gratitude for this experience. From the beginning, I felt like part of the family in every sense of the word. We shared great moments together: eating at the table, swimming in the pool, going on boat trips, riding bikes with Samuele, and much more. Veruscka was always very attentive and caring, and whenever a small problem arose, we solved it by speaking openly, something I really appreciated. I always felt safe, comfortable, and free to express my thoughts, knowing they would listen. I spent most of my time with Samuele and Veruscka, but Andrea and Alessandro were also always kind and welcoming in every interaction we had. My room was more than comfortable, with everything I could need, and the meals Veruscka prepared were always varied and delicious. I left with deep respect for the parents and the dedication they put into raising their children the right way. During my stay, I also had the chance to meet some of Samuele’s friends as well as some of Veruscka’s and Alessandro’s, which gave me the opportunity to practice my Italian. Being able to understand and speak a little bit made the experience even richer and more engaging. I truly wish the best for everyone in the family, and I hope Samuele will always keep the promise we made. Until next time, arrivederci!

I stayed here for 7 weeks. At first, I planned to stay only 4 weeks, but I fell in love with the lifestyle and the host family, so I decided to extend my stay. It was my first time in Canada, and spending the summer here turned out to be the best choice I could have made. Even though my English is not fluent, the family always supported me with patience and helped me to communicate and learn. I worked about 4 hours a day, helping with household tasks, pulling weeds, picking fruits, and sometimes cooking. One of the most memorable moments was making fresh apple juice by pressing apples ourselves. it was such a new and fun experience for me! On my days off, I enjoyed camping, swimming in the lake, and roasting marshmallows by the fire. Those moments felt magical, and I will never forget them. Jumping into the water at Davis Bay was absolutely thrilling. I highly recommend trying it! In the summer, there are many activities within the community. The Mandala Festival was truly special, and the yoga program with goats, pigs, and chickens was such a unique experience. There were also bicycles at the house, so I could easily explore nearby places. I loved hiking on the local trails, and as someone who adores the ocean, I felt so lucky to live just a 10minute walk from the sea. Watching sunsets there was breathtaking, and on clear nights, I could see the stars shining beautifully. This summer will always remain special in my heart. My room was cozy and the bed was so comfortable that I always slept well. I highly recommend this Workaway experience to anyone! Penny is a playful and lovable 10-year-old girl! And there are also two wonderful dogs in the family, and I grew to love them so much as well. And most importantly, Karen is truly an incredible person. From her way of living to the work she does, I learned so much just by being around her. Karen, I love you. you are truly inspiring!

I had a super revitalising and inspiring stay with Deborah and Pete. I only stayed for a week, but I valued every moment of it. Deborah is incredibly smart and considerate, and she taught me so much about the land, its stories, and its people. She was always willing to answer my many questions with enthusiasm and joy. Pete has lots of entertaining stories to tell about Irish folk music, Finland, and many other things, and he always made me smile. The two of them have built something truly special together. There is something so peaceful and unique about the tranquility of the forest, the night sky, and waking up slowly in the Bedford van the next morning. The tasks were very manageable and fun, and I had plenty of free time to explore the surrounding nature. The landscape is truly breathtaking, and I got to enjoy it on various hikes. I also managed to develop an understanding of its struggles (such as the wildfires and drought), which really opened up a new connection to nature that I had never felt before. I was warmly welcomed in one of the village’s two (or three?) bars while exploring on my own. The people there are so sweet, and even though they don’t speak any English, we still managed to exchange some thoughts and share some drinks. Looking back, I got exactly what I had hoped for out of my stay. I’m looking forward to visiting again, hopefully for a bit longer next time.

Lotta came to stay with us rather last minute. She stayed one month in total. She was a pleasure to have in our busy house, very helpful and got along with everyone really well, in particular our dog. Best wishes Lotta.
