We had an unforgettable stay at Wakatahuri. It was a unique experience from beginning to end. Fun boat rides to get there and back and very day was different and full of surprises. Natalie and Gavin made sure we made the most out of our time there. We kayaked, spearfished, dived for paua, hunted possums, culled and butchered goats, helped Gavin in the boat shed with woodwork, fixed bits and bobs, used some of the old incredible lister engines to do welding, helped in the kitchen, relocated some penguins, drove a tipper and digger to build a helipad, fed the chickens every day and enjoyed the company of all the animals. We loved playing with Polly the dog and taking her out in the row boat. Natalie kept us well fed with delicious home made food, bread, pickles, preserves, muesli, cakes and so much more. If you are looking for a remote off grid kiwi experience, this is a must visit place. You will learn so much and get to spend time in a historically rich and important place. Be prepared to be pushed out of your comfort zone and challenged. Open your ears to hear great stories and follow instructions, they have a lot to teach.

Hosting this wonderful family was such a joy. They were kind, respectful, and always ready to help with anything. They cared for my garden with love and connected so beautifully with my dogs. It was very special to share this experience with them, and I would happily host them again anytime.

It was a real pleasure to host Bianca and her friend Valerie. They helped out a lot with cleaning, walking my dogs, as well as gardening. And they were very pro-active with helping out, meaning I didn't have to ask them all the time. They also had a very compassionate heart towards my animals which was very sweet to witness. I definitely recommend them.

Shelli stayed with us for one week and was one of the best volunteers we’ve hosted. She was very helpful with preparing our agritourism place – cleaning, gardening, and organizing spaces. She was engaged, reliable, and independent. We also really enjoyed our conversations – thanks to her, we improved our English and created a very friendly atmosphere. We highly recommend her to any host!

Flora brought a dose of vibrance with her - she's a warm and empathetic woman and fun to be around. She was a big help with sorting out my garage, cleaning around the house , making cuttings and shifting/organising the nursery into winter mode. Flora is very motivated and keen to help - and she thinks carefully about what she is doing so as to be really effective. Always there to help with meal preparation and tidying after. No hesitation in recommending her to other potential hosts. Thanks Flora!

Our first Workaway experience with John and Fiona couldn’t have been better — we’re really grateful for the time we spent with them. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel welcome and comfortable. They were always up for a chat, and whenever we had questions, they were happy to help and share their advice. Fiona — you’re an amazing cook, just as many others have said! You also helped us a lot in making the most of our time, whether it was planning trips, recommending places to visit, or driving us there and back. John — We really enjoyed our Uno games, and we also loved listening to your stories. They were always interesting, and there was always something new to learn. Thanks again to both of you for your kindness and for making this a great first Workaway experience.

I had a amazing time in Arequipa in the hostel. It felt from the first day like a family to me and very welcomed Erick, Manu, Luis, Angelica, Rodrico and all the other employees are so lovely. For me it was the perfect breack from traveling and stay in one place for a while. My task where diverse but i enjoyed it. From working in the Garden or helping on the Bar in the Hostel - thank you so much for this amazing experience!

We spent 2 weeks with Fredy and Chana and had the most positive experience! They were so accommodating and helpful and as a result we felt very much at home here. The volunteer work varied day-to-day, ranging from cleaning the bar, labelling and bottling in the brewery and outdoor work including painting, building and gardening. The accommodation was pleasant and cosy with all the facilities you need to cook and relax. Meliquina is a very peaceful, remote village with plenty of nice trails and routes to hike/run in your free time. There is a local supermarket around 10 minutes from the brewery which has all the supplies you need. A few local cafes and restaurants nearby but check opening times before visiting, particularly in off seasons. Thank you so much for allowing us to spend this time here, we have had such a welcoming experience and all of us have agreed this has been a highlight of our trip :)

I loved my stay here and at El Gigante in general, and definitely recommend it. The village is small and not that touristic, which allows for a more authentic expérience than in others towns of the Pacific coast. The hostel is located 2 minutes by foot from the Playa Gigante beach, and 5-10 minutes from Amarillo beach. Even though the waves were too steep for my surfing level, I appreciated the free surfboards. The tasks requested were pretty easy : there are 3 front desk shift a day (managing check-ins and check-out, selling coffees, renting surf boards, keeping the café clean) and a cleaning shift a day (cleaning the common kitchen, common spaces, toilets and showers. Gabriel & Hugo were really nice to us volunteers, always trying to be accommodating and open to sharing great moments together. I felt so good here that I stayed 4 weeks instead of the 2 weeks planned at first. Thank you again for welcoming me into the family ❤️

I had a lovely three weeks with Béa and Marco! They warmly welcomed me into their home and showed me a slice of their life. The work was fair and rewarding. Béa is an excellent chef, they are both kind souls. I even had the chance to meet some of their friends and family which enriched my experience greatly.

Matheus is a very nice, open-minded person, likes to help others, and is very easy to get along with. He is a dedicated and precise worker and likes to learn new things. It was very nice to have Matheus with us. He was our second volunteer from Brazil, so we had our second opportunity to enjoy and share the sweet experience of brigadeiros. A very nice aspect is that he wrote a very nice thank-you note in our mother tongue Dutch, and there wasn’t a single mistake in it! 😊

It was very nice to have Jorma and Pia with us. A lot of work has been done, we are happy for them that they could spend time in a warm country as a stark ”contrast” to the cold weather in Finland. 😊 We have had the time to exchange interests and skills. We shared the meals together and had nice discussions about a lot of different themes. And Jorma, we really liked your comment: “It feels like being on holiday and having nice things to do.” We hope this counts for all Workawayers!

If I had to choose one word to describe this experience, it would be "unforgettable" Thank you Villi, for opening your home to me. I'm taking a little piece of Iceland with me in my heart. I will miss every sunrise, every snowfall, and every sunset. Thank you so much for everything. I hope I have the opportunity to return again. A big hug to the whole team.

Clem’s time with us at our community project in Kenya, though brief, touched our community in a truly special way. She connected deeply with the women, offering counselling with such gentleness, patience, and genuine care. Her presence created a safe and comforting space where many felt heard and valued. It was moving to see the trust she built in such a short time. Clem went beyond what was expected, even visiting women in their homes to support them more personally. This meant so much to our community and showed her true heart for people. We will always remember her warmth, kindness, and the peace she brought into our space. Clem is not just skilled in what she does, she carries a beautiful spirit that makes a lasting difference. We are deeply grateful and would welcome her back anytime.

Tabby came to work on our dairy farm for 1 month in Feb / March 2026. Communication was clear and she was very organised with her dates and travel plans. She learned the routines of feeding calves , washing buckets, bedding calves quickly and settled in well. She kept her work environment nice and clean and tidy. She worked well both independently and as part of the team. She has really positive energy and was a great worker. We wish her all the best with future travels and would love to welcome her back any time!
