Live with us in the countryside near Berlin, Germany.

We live in the middle of a village, surrounded by beautiful nature such as numerous lakes, big wild forest, fields and meadows. At the same time, the center of the capital Berlin is only one hour drive away. There's public transport links to Berlin within walking distance from our home.
We are: Two boys, 12 and 2 years old, a cat and a couple. Both of us grown-ups are working (I work from home) and as our home is an old big building with a large garden, we -and you (-; - will never get bored. We would appreciate your presence and your support in the garden, with cooking, with DIY Projects or / and with our two children.
The type of your help depends on how long you are staying and on what talents / skills you bring with you.

If you want, we can teach you some German. We will integrate you into our life. We like to discuss.
In your free time you can take part in our life or just withdraw to your own space. You can make a trip to Berlin or you can discover our beautiful area by foot or by bike. There are many lakes around. You will not find a mountain here, sorry. But there is a great climbing forest and a wildlife park.
You can borrow a bike from us.

Arbeit
If you feel comfortable with little children, you may take care of the 2 year old for about 2 hours /day: Creative playing, exploring materials, discover nature.
If you are able to, you could proofread the homework of our older son. Help him deal with the topics that interest him. Make projects. Built stuff. Make music. Play.

If you like to cook, we are very happy leave the kitchen to you! But we can also take turns or teach you some receipies.. In case that you are vegetarian/vegan we like to adjust during our stay.

We are looking for interesting exchange with friendly people from other countries or from germany.

We will recommend beautiful places in nature that you can reach by bike. When the weather is nice you can enjoy our garden. You can also reach Berlin by train in a good hour.

My time in Groß Schönebeck was absolutely wonderful. Sula and Philipp are amazing hosts that made me immediately feel at home. They are both good humored and fantastic conversation partners. The younger one,… read more Nikolai is such a character but very funny and sweet. The cat, Lotti, quickly became one of my favorite cats ever!

In terms of responsibilities, I mostly cooked for the family. I prepared lunch and dinner most days, as well as did dishes and helped to keep the kitchen in order. I also did groceries. For the first week, it was just me and a friend in the house, as the family was on holiday. We took care of the cat and kept the house clean. Occasionally, I watched over Nikolai or helped in the garden with raking. I felt that the amount of work was very fair and I always felt very appreciated by Sula and Philipp, so it was very rewarding. They are an easy-going family that are easy to communicate with and will gladly adjust their needs to whatever you would like to take on around the house.

The accommodation is fantastic. The room that I stayed in was the nicest room I have ever lived in, and there was a bathroom right across the hall that was very private. I was able to do work on my computer and be productive in complete peace from my room. The house itself is stunningly beautiful.

I think it is important for future workaways to realize that the house is very far from the city, which is nice because it is so peaceful in the village, but important to know if you want to go to the city often. You have to take a train for an hour, and then an S-bahn for another 20 minutes to get to the city center. The train from the village only runs every 2 hours and stops early in the evening most days. It costs 6.10 euro. I honestly enjoyed the train journey, but at times it was annoying when I would miss the train and have to wait for two hours for the next one. For these reasons, I think staying with this host would be better suited to someone who doesn't want to go into the city too often.

My favorite memories are going cycling with Sula to the lake near the house and going to a guitar concert at the church the first day I arrived. My one regret is that is that I did not stay longer with this family.

I had a wonderful time staying in Groß Schönebeck... The house is warm with love and intention.
Sula is a super marvelous and sweet person, and an amazing artist!

Also had a great time playing together with the boys in the snow and happy travels with Nikolai. Both kids are gifted with genius level brains and very good hearts.
