We live close to the center of Reykjavik and are eager to showing people around, cooking Icelandic food and spending quality time together with the family and friends. Our house is very lively and never a dull moment.
Most important to us is that someone staying with us is interested in bonding with the kids and playing with them.
We are looking for someone to help us with the kids in the afternoon (driving to after school activities and baby sitting some days). Also small help around the house. In exchange you will have your own room and bathroom on the first floor and get all inclusive food. We are open for learning about different cultures and showing people who come to us around the city and mabye go a little outside the city for sightseeing.

Everything is walkable from our house as we are located in the center. Swimming pool and gym 15 minute walk and the main street Laugarvegur 5 mín walk. We are vegan and vegetarian friendly and cook meat very seldom.
Kate joined us at the beginning of the year and helped by stepping into everything we needed support with. Having her stay with us meant a lot, and we’re truly grateful for all the ways she helped out around the house.
Her willingness to jump in with household chores and help with babysitting brought a real sense of ease to our days. We… read more appreciated her kindness, reliability, and positive presence.
It was also simply a pleasure having her around. Sharing meals, conversations, and everyday moments together made the weeks feel special, and we’re very thankful for the time we got to spend together. The kids have definitely leveled up their English-speaking skills, and Sibbadú still says “G’day!”
This was my first ever workaway experience and I couldn't have asked for a better one. I spent 7 weeks in Reykjavík with Snædís, Stefán, and the kids and I can't recommend them enough! There truly is never a dull moment and it was a pleasure to be part of such a fun, lively, and welcoming family. I also got to spend lots of time with their… read more extended family - including on a weekend away to Akureyri - and I felt equally as welcomed by them, which was amazing.
My main responsibility was helping with the kids; picking them up from school, taking them to sports, playing with them at home etc. As to be expected with an 8, 7, and 2 year old, there was the occasional meltdown or moment of chaos, but it was genuinely an absolute please getting to bond with the kids and in no way did it feel like 'work'. I had so much fun with all 3 of them and I will miss them very much! Snædís and Stefán were the most wonderful hosts and we shared many great conversations and laughs. I felt at home right away with them in their beautiful house.
Anyone who gets the opportunity to stay with this family are very lucky indeed ❤️ I had the best time and hope to come back in the not too distant future!
I stayed with Snædís, Stefán and the kids in december and it was the perfect ending for my year in Iceland. My time there was amazing and I loved getting to know the icelandic everyday life! Everybody was really kind and welcoming and I was able to meet a lot of relatives of the family who were all nothing but great to me. It was my first… read more Christmas away from my family and I couldn't have found better people to spend it with. I got along really well with the kids, sure it wasn't always easy but whats life without a few challenges:) I hope to see everyone again at some point <3
Mia stayed with us for a month over Christmas and it was an absolute pleasure hosting her. She was always fun company and the kids loved her and still miss her to this day actually. She did all the house tasks that we asked for and her reading pace was an inspiration to us. Thanks for the socks. Best of wishes to you in all your future adventures… read more Mia. Hugs from Iceland.
Having Linda was our first experience using workaway and we couldn't have been happier with it. From the start Linda got along with the family and the kids loved playing with her. She was organized and did the tasks at hand very well. We wish her all the best in her future adventures, hugs from Iceland <3
I've had a great stay with Snædis, Stefan and the kids in the heart of Reykjavik.
I stayed 7 weeks in total and it was mine and their first Workaway experience (but I worked as an Au Pair before).
It's three kids, so expect a full house and always something going on. It's barely ever quiet, but there is never a dull moment and always fun!
The… read more daughter is an absolute sweetheart, she's so lovely and mature and helped me a lot with her two brothers (especially with translating as she speaks good English).
The boys are really nice and sweet as well. They are kids, so of course they might throw a tantrum, but they will also run happily to you and give you a hug when you pick them up from kindergarden 😊
The work is fairly easy and mainly some hours after school/kindergarden with the kids (pick ups, after school activities, playing with them etc) and some light household duties during the day (emptying the dishwasher, tidying up a bit etc). Additionally maybe some babysitting in the evening every now and then.
The weekends I mainly used to explore the beautiful country. One weekend I had the opportunity to join the host grandparents for a trip to the North - amazing!

Hosting Mina was a wonderful experience for our family. She is the most lovely person, sweet and positive. Mina is also hard working and did such a good job with our sometimes rowdy kids. They all loved her and so did we the grownups <3 100% reccomend Mina if you have the chance to host her in the future.
Hope to see her again if ever in Iceland,… read more good luck with your travels and future work!
Where to start?! I had such a great time with the family!! After I had a not so nice experience as a workaway in the summer, I was a little afraid of going back to a family. But my stay was perfect from the beginning to the end. Snædís and Stefán are great, open and very appreciative people! :) We had very nice conversations and there was always… read more something to laugh about.
The children are really sweet, sometimes a bit challenging ;) and there is never a quiet moment. The "work" (I don't want to call it that because it never seemed like work to me) was very manageable and simple.
All the family members I got to know were very open and friendly with me. The food that was cooked was always really delicious and in general there was always a lot of food/ingredients available.
I liked my room and the rest of the house very much, everything was very cozy. The area was great, so close to the sea and not far to the city center.
I am soo grateful for this experience and for getting to know you!! <3 Thank you
