Our Farm is run by Els (from The Netherlands), who lived at the farm since 2007 together with her late Kenyan husband Kamande. The Farm is an organic vegetable farm in the Kenyan highlands, where lots of visitors from Nairobi come to enjoy farmlife and learn about 'where does your food come from'. Come help us with your experience in environmental education, cob building and other building and art works. We have a running vegetable farm, and we host lots of visitors. We already have 70 people working with us. Please let us know which specific skills you like to add? Builders, carpenters, plumbers very welcome :-) We need people who have experience with cob building, and to build an eco-toilet. Also let us know if you are good with desktop publishing, vegetarian cooking, and we still dream of making our own farm-cookbook!

Kenyan rural life may be quite different from what you are used to. You will learn to accept it is not always going as planned, you will learn to adjust, you will learn to work with what you can find (hardware stores are not very well equiped...), you will become very creative :-)
The farm is run by Els - a Dutch national, who lived at the farm since 2007 together with her late husband Kamande. The farm was started at Kamande's family land. Els' home country the Netherlands, and the difference with Kenyan rural life is quite a contrast. Staying with us at the farm also means you will see a lot of the village-life and we will have time to talk about the culture and way of living in Kenya.

We have a beautiful farm just outside of Nairobi. For educational visits we started a foundation, to welcome schools and other groups to the farm. We would love some help from people who have experience in environmental education. We need to improve on our educational programs for the many schools that are already visiting us. We need to finish an outside kitchen, guestrooms, eco-toilet. A carpenter, plumber, and anybody who is experienced in cob-building is very welcome. And we like to build a rocket-stove on our compound. And anybody who can build a 'black soldier fly' composter? We do have people for the heavy labor, so we are more focused on knowledgeable people on education, carpentry, cob-building, arts and design, sawing etc. If you like cooking, you are also most welcome to prepare diner and teach our kitchen staff new recipes.

You will be staying in the farmhouse, at our farm in a small Kenyan village, not far from Nairobi. We have 1 extra guest bedroom in our house. The farmhouse is more of a community house, for Els + an assistant manager + Kamande's brother. So you will experience the real 'farmstay' together with the farmers. We share the meals (mostly vegetarian/vegan) together, of course with lots of fresh vegetables from the farm. When the ecotoilet + kitchen are finished, we will also start using an extra guestroom.

Mlango Farm is in a real rural area, but only 1 hour away from Nairobi, so during your time off you can enjoy the best of both worlds - you can enjoy the peace and clean air in the village, it is beautiful to walk in the neighbourhood. Nairobi's citylife and shoppingmalls are not too far away and easily done by public transport.
We will be happy to advice!
