The Farm is managed by Els (from The Netherlands), who started the farm in 2007 together with her late Kenyan husband Kamande. Currently 80 people from the neighbourhood work together with Els to run the farm. The farm is an organic educational farm in the Kenyan highlands, where lots of visitors from Nairobi come to enjoy farm life and learn about permaculture practises, sustainable farming and living. Come help us to further develop our eco-village style farm with your experience in environmental education, natural building and other building and art works. Please let us know which specific skills you like to add? We are specifically looking for people who have experience with cob and/or adobe building, carpenters, educators. Also let us know if you are good with desktop publishing, vegetarian cooking, social media. We also still dream of making our own farm-cookbook! We only have space for 1 or 2 volunteers at a time, we welcome volunteers from 3 weeks or more.

Kenyan rural life may be quite different from what you are used to. You will learn to accept it is not always going as planned, you will learn to adjust, you will learn to work with what you can find (hardware stores are not very well equiped...), you will become very creative :-)
The farm is run by Els - a Dutch national, who lived at the farm since 2007 together with her late husband Kamande. The farm was started at Kamande's family land. Els' home country the Netherlands, and the difference with Kenyan rural life is quite a contrast. Staying with us at the farm also means you will see a lot of the village-life and we will have time to talk about the culture and way of living in Kenya.Arbeit
We have a beautiful farm just outside of Nairobi. For educational visits we started a foundation, to welcome schools and other groups to the farm. We would love some help from people who have experience in environmental education. We need to improve on our educational programs for the many schools that are already visiting us, and our staff would love to improve on their skills and knowledge to professionally welcome our visitors. So if you have educational power, please bring it on!
We also have many general tasks to work on, all noted down on our 'scrum board'. We look for a beekeeper who can teach some of our staff, a carpenter, plumber, and anybody who is experienced in cob-building is very welcome. Next project is another guesthouse (or 2) , naturally built with cob and a natural roof and a rocket stove inside. We do have people for the heavy labor, so we are more focused on knowledgeable people on education, carpentry, cob-building, arts and design, social media etc. If you like cooking, you are also most welcome to prepare diner and teach our kitchen staff new recipes.Sprachen

The Farm is in a small Kenyan village, not far from Nairobi. You will be staying either in the farmhouse or at one of our 2 guestrooms (with eco-toilet) above the outside kitchen. We also run a camping facility at the farm, this is for paying guests. We share the meals (mostly vegetarian/vegan) together, of course with lots of fresh vegetables from the farm. Please note we are in the Kenyan highlands at 2,000 meter altitude. It can get chilly here!

The farm is in a real rural area, but only 1 hour away from Nairobi, so during your time off you can enjoy the best of both worlds - you can enjoy the peace and clean air in the village, it is beautiful to walk in the neighborhood. Nairobi's citylife and shopping malls are not too far away and easily done by public transport.
We will be happy to advice!Etwas mehr Information

We contacted Els and Kamande pretty last minute and they welcomed us with open arms. Els and Kamande have a strong commitment to the environment and the local community.
