We are a self managed COMMUNITY, founded 30+ years ago, situated 10km from the center of Granada, that hosts and helps people coming from a situation of social exclusion, mainly mothers with children in emergency situations or young immigrants, people with disabilities without family, teenagers at risk situations or people needing a home. We are almost 130 people. There is no hired people as it is a voluntary based project.
The AIM of the foundation is to provide our people with a feeling of family and a healthy environment and to give them the opportunity to learn through occupation in different fields, recovering themselves and look for a job or stay and improve the community according to which is their dream.
NB: in this period we are looking for volunteers that are available to stay 12 months in a specific volunteering program dedicated to European Youth.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR MINIMUM ONE MONTH AND WITH A INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OF SPANISH (please don't write us if you can't commit yourself to stay at least one month and if your Spanish is not good enough to have conversation with the people of the community, to be independent working here and to feel yourself comfortable living daily in the middle of 130 people, this condition are important to take care of the people with whom we work with and to take care of volunteers that we receive :) )

A GOOD LEVEL OF SPANISH IS REQUIRED because we only have a few English speakers in our community and they are not able to follow volunteers all the time.
We hope that volunteers take initiative at work and that they like working with people from different cultures, children and mental health users. It is reacquired a good level of leadership in order to manage small grup of people...
We are SITUATED in Sierra Elvira, less than 10 km from Granada (reachable in 30 minutes by bus).
NEARBY you can enjoy hot springs in the nature for free, explore Andalusian culture in Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada, do sport in the mountain, go on excursions, go to the Alhambra, go to Sierra Nevada.
NB: Some rules to be welcome in our Community:
Concerning the life in the Fundación there are some important things to know.
Firstly, the volunteers are supposed to cook for themselves the dinner, but we give you the food to do so.
Also, we provide you with sheets and towels, but if you want to bring towels yourself, you're welcome to.
The volunteers who come to the Fundación will live together in the house(s) which are meant for them and you will share the room with someone else during your stay. All in all, it is like living in a big family; you'll be able to do things together, cook together and just generally spend time together.
On to the working timetable. Like already mentioned before, the community work each day is approximately 5 hours (morning/afternoon depending on the activities in which they are involved- Monday to Saturday) but mandatory community time is different:
Every morning from Monday to Friday we have community breakfast at 8 a.m. At 8:30 a.m. there is a meeting of the whole community and at 9/9:30 a.m. the community work begins. We finish at 2:00 pm and at 2:30 pm there is a community lunch.
Once a week each person participates in the cleaning group.
On Saturday breakfast and the meeting start half an hour later (8:30AM).
Volunteering in our community presupposes that the volunteer is committed to respect these schedules and community moments that are essential to generate a family atmosphere and cohesion.
When living in a community like this, it is obviously important that there are some rules to maintain an organized co-living.
This means no alcohol and no drugs for anyone. In addition to that, you will have to establish rules in the house you live in, like cleaning, washing the dishes, respecting when someone wants to sleep and so on. We really ask to clean the house whee you live during your spare time. Everyday we receive visits and new volunteers, and we like them to feel comfortable when they arrive.
Last but not least, it might be interesting to know that there is good-working Wifi in the houses of the Fundación;) and that you can use our bikes to move.
If you have questions of any type, you're more than welcome to ask me whatever's on your mind. In order to make the procedure easy, please send us a message with the EXACT date and time of arrival and departure you are proposing us.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
In our community, more than 15 nationalities are represented. We host people in social exclusion and volunteers from all over the world. All volunteers could know a lot of people form different country and through the experience to live together, learn a lot about different cultures. We always suggest to volunteers to profit of this great possibility and make an immersion in the community in order to have the best experience they can have!
