** Currently pretty full for the year, but would be happy to host a helper, who can help us with electrics!

    Hei hei!
My name is Line and after many own Workaway adventures, I am now searching for Workawayers, who want to come help us my explore the North.

If you are interested in living 350km above the Arctic Circle, want to explore stunning nature and try Norwegian cinnamon buns, you are very welcome!

Our village, Fjordgård, is a small fishing village on Senja, the second largest island in Norway. It is connected to the mainland with a bridge and the area is so scenic that it is often used for advertisement and wedding shoots.
You might know the area from pictures as the iconic hiking tracks up Segla, Hesten and Barden start only a few meters away. Or village is located amidst untouched nature and nestled inbetween the mountains on one side and the fjord on the other. From our house you get stunning views of the surrounding mountains, fjord, and the small island Husøy. At the right time, you can enjoy the midnight sun or northern lights directly from our balcony.

If you are interested, we would love to arrange some activities together and to show you around in the free time if our schedules allow. This way you won't just get the Norwegian living experience but also learn that Kvikk Lunsj (a certain chocolate) is a necessity for any serious hiking trip.

Even in times when we can't go on adventures together, we can teach you some words in Norwegian (Bokmål) and how to make our favorite kanelsnurr (cinnamon buns) or proper Norwegian waffles. If you are new to photography, I can give you some advice and maybe even lend you some equipment.

We will be away the whole year and can therefore not offer our normal Workaway experience. We still want to welcome travelers though. So what we can offer is for Workawayers to work a few hours in exchange for accommodation, utilities and internet.
This is not housesitting, but instead of our normal 5 hours pp of help with renovation projects, we are now only looking for half the hours of tasks as described below. We can't offer food or a cultural experience this way, but you will get an amazing base to explore Northern Norway, hike, ski, observe the Northern lights, or simply have a beautiful home to live in while perusing your own home office/ projects.
As we are not there to socialize, we would prefer a couple or 2 friends traveling together.
If you send us an inquiry, please mention if you would come by car as this way it will be easier for you to run errands or explore the area properly. There also is public transport though.**

Examples of things that we might need help with
    - housekeeping/ cleaning
    - running errands
    - shoveling snow (we get a lot here!)

    Potentially also:
    - painting
    - sanding
    - assembling furniture

I am looking for someone reliable with attention to detail.

From Tromsø, Fjordgård can be reached by car (with and without ferry) as well as public transport. The fastest connection takes about 1:20h.

    Things to do:
You have plenty of opportunity to enjoy nature here.
On Senja, you could go hiking, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, kayaking, swimming, camping, mountain, e-, and fat biking, or simply chill in a sauna or outside with fjord views. Grab your camera and explore some of the popular tracks, visit nearby lakes or the white sand beach in Ersfjord. Maybe pick blueberries or cloudberries on the way. The region is also famous for fishing, so you can borrow our basic fishing rods and try your luck at catching dinner.
There are also a lot of guided tours on Senja, for example boat rides, (ice) fishing and climbing, husky and aurora tours.
You can also simply wait for the Northern lights on our balcony, wrapped in a warm blanket with a hot chocolate. Or light a bonfire for a BBQ in our Grillhytta, where we can enjoy cozy evenings even if it pours outside. For inside, we have plenty of games and enjoy movie evenings.
There are busses, but having a car will enable you to explore and borrow equipment more flexibly.

    The surrounding:
Here in Fjordgård, there is a small supermarket with an integrated café and a pub. It’s a very beautiful spot, and has lots to offer if you like the outdoors.
The village is located amidst untouched nature, nestled inbetween the sea and beautiful mountains. It serves as starting point to diverse popular hiking tracks. Most people come to Fjordgård to see the iconic summit of Segla on the Hesten trail. From our house, you can already see the mountain and just have to head up the road to reach the starting point of the famous trail. Apart from Hesten, the most popular hikes are Segla, Barden, Inste Kongen (Kongebrua), Breitinden, Kneipen, Husfjellet, Sukkertoppen and Grytetippen.

Apart from the hikes, Senja has many other things to see. The Ånderdalen national park, Tungeneset, Ersfjordstranda (it might sound weird, but there's a famous toilet!), Husøy, Hamn i Senja and the Bergsbotn viewing platform over Bergsfjorden are some of them.

If you want to explore further, apart from Tromsø, the next bigger city is Finnsnes. Some guests also want to visit Narvik or Harstad. To the east there is Lyngen and the Three-Country Cairn, where Norway, Finnland and Sweden meet. To the west you find the Vesterålen and Lofoten islands. There are a few ferry connections here that make exploring trips easier: you might want to take the ferry from Senja to Andenes to explore the Lofoten, or the ferry to Brensholmen to explore Sommarøy and Kvaløya.
