In Northwest Maui, our three-acre off-grid fruit farm grows banana, papaya, ʻulu, citrus, coconut, avocado, and noni, and supports a small but thriving farm stand. This ʻāina is sacred, and we invite you to join our family as a respectful caretaker. Our community is still healing from the devastating fires, so we ask that you come with sensitivity and aloha for the people and place.

Honolua Bay is a five-minute walk from the farm, famous for its snorkeling, coral reefs, and natural beauty. Mokuleʻia Beach, about a fifteen-minute walk away, is one of Hawaiʻi’s most peaceful and scenic beaches. Honolua also carries deep Hawaiian cultural and historical significance, which you’ll have the chance to learn about during your stay.

We welcome good people who bring positive energy and a spirit of cooperation. A core value for us is creating win-win relationships so everyone feels fulfilled while doing excellent work and maintaining good vibes on the land. We emphasize clear, kind communication so that everyone’s needs, thoughts, and expectations are understood and respected. Hosting amazing people has continually enriched us through meaningful cultural and social exchange.

No smokers, heavy drinkers, or substance abusers, please.

It can be difficult for visitors to experience Hawaiian history and culture in an authentic way because much of Hawaiʻi has been heavily commercialized. You might be surprised to hear that Hawaiʻi is still a sovereign nation. Hawaiʻi has the most amazing living culture that endures through its people and ʻāina.
During your stay, we will share the concept of the ahupuaʻa, the traditional Hawaiian land division that connects mountain to sea, and explain how our land fits within it. You will have access to recommended Hawaiian books and the opportunity to learn about the native and canoe plants we grow, their cultural significance, and the sacred nature of Honolua.
We are founding members of an organization which successfully protected the surrounding area from commercial development and helped establish it as a State park. Our team also partnered with the State to create a long-term plan for the park’s stewardship and design, ensuring its care for future generations. You can have the satisfaction of knowing your stay here helps empower us to steward Honolua and our community.

We basically have 3 categories of work that we need help with:

    * Farming (weeding, weed whacking, planting, harvesting, watering, spreading mulch, sifting compost)

    * Food Industry/Customer Service (Making and selling banana bread and lemonade for our farm stand)

    * Construction (Building, wood working, plumbing, electrical, tractor operation, chain saw)

We will hire you as an employee so you will need to have a U.S. passport or a U.S. drivers license along with a social security card or a birth certificate. For all categories of work, pay will be $12/hr for all hours worked doing any job for us. There are opportunities for tips. You will need to buy your own food.

You will be expected to work 24 hours/week. With some planning we can make a schedule that accommodates the experiences you want to have on Maui. We prefer to start with a 6 week commitment but have had people stay with us for years!

There are excellent beaches, hikes, and snorkel spots within walking distance of the farm. When you want to explore other parts of the island, you can catch a ride to the bus stop located about three miles away at Napili Market, or take an Uber for around $10. For bus routes and schedules, check the public transit section on Google Maps or search “Maui Bus.” To visit places like Hāna, Haleakalā, Twin Falls, ʻĪao Valley, or drum circles, you will need to rent a car or connect with a friend who has one since the bus does not go to those areas.

Keep in mind that we share the land with plenty of critters such as mosquitoes, spiders, cockroaches, mice, feral chickens, feral cats, and wild boars. The tents are built on raised platforms and have metal roofs to protect from sun and rain. They seal well to keep critters out, but wild roosters often “cock-a-doodle-doo” at night. Because we live off the grid, our solar power system can experience occasional outages, especially on rainy days, and we turn the power off at night. It is a truly off-grid experience.

Cell service is hit or miss. We have high-speed internet through Starlink. Power is usually turned off overnight around 9 p.m. We also provide laundry service once a week.
