Hello lovely workawayers! Ok....this is a two site project this time. Nico and I aim is to live as self sufficiently as possible on our 4 hectares of beautiful Italian mountainside bordering the Gran Sasso national Park.
We are in the early stages of this massive project and would love to have the help of like minded people who want to make a positive difference to the environment.
This year we plan to build dry stone raised beds for vegetables and companion plants, build a herb and medicinal plant garden, build a duck House, start our first beehives, plant trees to help prevent soil erosion and reinstate woodland, and woodland management.
At the other site which we’ve spent 8 years restoring a stone farmhouse ......that’s us in the photo...and we need to finish the garden area with some hard landscaping, decking for the pool, using old timbers from the roof to make a boardwalk using the old bricks to make a small terrazzo for the hammock!! Also some painting and a big clean up ready for the rental season.
How does that all sound?? We hope this type of mixed skill project will appeal to maybe couples with different skills ? Here’s hoping!!
We believe in having fun and eating well and showing you beautiful Abruzzo in reward for your amazing talents and work!! Sooooo if you have lots of enthusiasm and happy energy and are self motivated please come and join us.
The properties have there own walks, through woods and waterfalls but there are also beautiful mountain walks literally a few metres from the house.
Abruzzo is a primarily rural region with the beautiful Adriatic coast and its long sandy beaches to the East and magnificent mountains to the west, with fields of olives and vineyards dominating the lower areas, and an abundance of beautiful nature in the mountains including eagles, chamois, bears and wolves.
Rome 2hrs away and Pescara 1 hr, historic Penne and Medieval Bisenti about half an hour...for all planes/trains and bus routes...really happy to collect and show you around after a cappucino e dolce in the piazza. Nearest town is 15/20 mins by car for bars/osteria/pizzeria/shops. Buildings are medieval but shopping is very modern Italian!

Learning about the local foods/pasta/wine and cheeses.....all made on local farms and vineyards and country life in rural Italy first hand from our neighbours!!
We are 100m from 500sq km of National Park with Marsciano Bear, Wolves, Eagles, chamois and breathtaking landscapes.
Mountains to climb and trails to follow, waterfalls to explore ..and also the Adriatic sea with ancient trabbochi and working fishing port.
The Medieval castles and towers and monasteries and architecture are also a photographers dream whilst relaxing with a Cafe and dolce in a piazza in the Italian sunshine....even in the winter!!!
Initially we would love assistance from those who are fit and strong (who do not have allergies or suffer badly from hayfever....as we live close to the wilderness and much flora and fauna! Any carpenters/people comfortable with chainsaws/scaffolding/paint brushes/pick axe...!!
We can accommodate 4-6 people in 2-3 double or twin bedrooms ..... authentic Italian meals (we eat mostly vegetarian) from local grown produce provided in exchange for help
Campo Imperatore is immediately behind us with its wild horses and mountain trails and the Medieval Castle of Roccca Calascio with views towards the Adriatic and Rome.....!
