    Description

Our school is an organization founded in 2013 independent of religious and political spheres. The project was born out of witnessing the many inequalities and social conflicts such as low educational attainment and attendance, youth crime, teen pregnancy, and domestic violence. We develop socio-educational assistance projects for children, youth and families at risk of social exclusion.

Our school is located in the city of Trujillo, in the district of La Esperanza. This is one of the largest districts of the city, and also one of the poorest. For this reason, we have chosen to develop our project here.

Our goal is to create a place where the affected children (3 to 15 years old) and families can feel safe and comfortable while learning and/or reinforcing both their academic and social abilities. In this way we try to abolish the rate of illiteracy and the social inequality gap.

The school is implementing aid programs in the areas of education, child labor, health, nutrition and family planning. We work with the most vulnerable groups regardless of race, religion or social status.
What do we expect from the volunteer?
    - Be proactive. Be ready to apply your own ideas, improvise and/or find solutions.
    - Be compromised. Be willing to give your 100% every day and eager to help in any possible way.
    - Have empathy. Listen and try to understand the feelings of the children and families. Be respectful, tolerant and patient with open mind and without any prejudices.

    Child protection sample guidelines:

Please do not smoke, do not use drugs or consume alcohol in schools.
Please do not take children out of the organization without permission
Please take care of your language (bad words) in front of the children.
Please do not add underage children to your social networks.
Always inform local staff if you witness or suspect inappropriate behavior by other staff or children.

    ...

There are different roles available for volunteers:

    1) Teaching:

Classes in the morning are from 8 a.m. till 12.30 p.m.

We also have afternoon class from 3 p.m. till 5.30 p.m.

    We do have six classes.

    1. Kindergarden

    2. 1st grade

    3. 2nd grade

    4. 3rd/4th grade

    5. 5th/6th grade

    6. Special class (kids with disabilities)

19Depending on your skill set and time of your stay, you will teach in one of these classes. You don’t need to be a professional teacher but you need loads of love for the kids, they’ll return it.

Also you should speak at least basic Spanish to be able to communicate with them. You won’t be left alone with a whole class, at least one more volunteer always will be with you. Sometimes even local teachers. It is good if you can take the initiative and bring your ideas of what and how you would want to teach to the kids.
We are currently working on specific timetables and curriculum. The main focus here will be reading and writing, mathematics and English. Please note that if you want to tech English, you are very welcome to, but know that they only have a very basic understanding of English (numbers, colors, days of the week).

In the afternoon there are kids from here and from public schools, but way less than in the morning. We help them with their homework, teaching them English,..

Depending on the number of volunteers you are asked to attend afternoon classes as well for about one or two times a week. Normally there are enough volunteers you will only work in the morning or in the afternoon.

The minimum commitment of this job is two weeks. Open all year long.

    2) Teaching English
We are looking for volunteers teaching English . for mostly beginners. You will teach a whole class with one or two other volunteers. You also need basic Spanish for this one.

    3) Workshops

We are also looking for volunteers who will host workshops sharing their skills in:
Music, instruments, sport, arts, practical skills etc...
If you apply for this one please specify which skill you would want to do.

    4) Fundraising

We are currently looking for someone who will set up an online campaign for being able to receive international donations. This would require choosing and registering an online platform for donations, setting up the profile with texts, pictures etc.

    5) Online community manager

We are looking for a volunteer community manager for our social networks, also to edit videos, photographs, update our website etc.

    6) Coordinators

    1) Enseñar:

Clases en la mañana de 8 a.m. hasta 12.30 p.m.

    Tenemos también clase en la tarde de 3 p.m. a 5.30 p.m.

    3. Segundo grado

    4. Tercero/Cuarto grado

    5. Quinto/Sexto grado
