Description
Currently, along with people to help in our charitable school, we are also looking for someone to help in our cafe, which helps support our school.
Cafe: We serve traditional village food along with Canadian baked goods. We are looking for individuals to help in the cafe, serving guests, preparing food, washing dishes, etc. We will provide room and board for your services.
School:
We are an NGO in the Indian Himalaya and run the School, a charitable school offering quality education to children from over 25 different villages. I am a Canadian anthropologist married to my husband, who was born and raised in our village which we currently reside in. We met 8 years ago and have been married seven years. We have dedicated our lives to improving the lives of children in our area. Volunteers who come to live and work with us have an opportunity to learn about the culture first hand, as they live with us in the village. We have 220 students and classes for Lower Kindergarten to class 8. Volunteers help in many ways, by teaching ESL, assisting in classes, doing arts and crafts, music, and many often teach in classrooms when we are short of teachers -- which is often. All of our volunteers form a deep connection with the children and the villagers, and often find it difficult to leave.
Our village is very small -- just 400 people, so volunteers are welcomed into the community and take part in all cultural activities. We are not far from the hill station of Mussoorie so volunteers usually go there for shopping and site seeing on weekends. Our rooms are clean and simple, and our meals are vegetarian. Everything is simple here. Bathrooms are westernised, with hot water and showers. We do our best to make you as comfortable as possible.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
As you are staying in a tribal village in the heart of the Himalayan foothills, you will be rewarded everyday with stunning scenery and the opportunity to learn first hand what life is like in a Jounpur Village. From October to May, there are many weddings in the area, which you are welcome to attend. Secondly, you have the opportunity to learn what is involved in running a charitable school striving for excellence, and a cafe which supports the school.

We would like someone who can stay for at least 2 months. We will provide accomodation and food.Languages spoken

You are responsible for cleaning your own room and getting rid of your own trash. We will wash your clothes, but not socks or underwear. We provide meals in our cafe. All meals are vegetarian. Wifi 8s available at our cafe.
What else ...
As we are in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand we are 3-5 hours from several trekking destinations: Hark -i-doon, Gangotri, Yamunotri, and several less known trekking routes as well. Locally, there are several day and overnight treks which offer breathtaking views. Rishikesh -- the yoga capital of the world is just a 3 hours drive from here. For local entertainment, many volunteers like to go to near-by Kempty Falls for snacks, and shopping for basic amenities, but Mussoorie (40 minute jeep ride) will offer more opportunities for other needs such as internet, restaurants, western food, etc. Wifi is available at our cafe.
